Portugal is one of my favourite countries in Eurovision (I found them cute because they do so poor), but if they want to succeed they will have to entry the 21st century when it comes to their national selection and play more risky.

I found some great and modern songs from Portugal on Youtube, but the songs they have on national finals are always Fado fado something. Don't get me wrong, but if you want to do fado every year do it right.

Or better yet: send an appropriate song! Flor-de-Lis and Vânia were rrrreally gorgeous. Vânia had won, had there been only a professional jury. You wanna win? Send a song in English made by Swedish which tells nothing about the Portuguese music scene. You'll get better results. Winning? Difficult, but not impossible! Look Austria, a country with no special ties to other groups of countries.

again and aging: you are giving reason to me: Vânia had won, had there been only a professional jury.! that is the point!! quality music judge by professionals not by a diaspora process!!

Sorry, but Conchita had a full package and won. That song was not my favourite but Conchita's song had a good production, staging was great and all that hype about Conchita at the end helped her to win.

I don't understand what's wrong in my post, Portuguese national selection doesn't make any sense nor is able to attract the most popular singers to compete.

This is what I'm talking about: if Portugal is able to send something like this it will be top 5, easily. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj8LATWFKQE
Obviously, Portuguese broadcaster is not able to attract singers like this one.

And yea, it's not about language or block voting, winners always grab points from almost every country, Portugal simply has to change people who are in charge for Eurovision .

package? so you are saying this is not a music contest to choose the best quality music but a package contest and that is the reason why Austria won? yes I know, that package you mean is her beard!! yes maybe you are right and in that case better is to call this contest the Eurovison Package Contest EPC and not ESC, right?

You're absolutely correct in everything you say. The only one we portuguese have to blame is RTP and their ridiculous NF. Period.

let me explain one thing : in Portugal no one singer with a good musical career what to bet in ESC...with the history we have in this contest this can be a great damage and can kill a career of someone with good position in the musical scenario in the country! I can show you hundred of fantastic goos portuguese songs, but I really don't expect to see any of those or similar in ESC! never!

You are wrong. Conchita had a decent song, a story with impact, people were writing a lot about her and she could sing.

In order to do well or win Eurovision one has to have;
1) the best or decent song
2) charisma
3) fantastic vocals
4) attractive staging.

Portuguese broadcaster is not able to have that at the moment becuse selection is outdated is people who are in charge don't do their job properly nor understand how Eurovision works.

Conchita had quality and that's the fact. As I said, she was not my favourite, but you cannot deny the quality behind her performance.

And also: stop blaming politics, that doesn't make any sense, Austria won with a terrible Eurovision record prior to 2014. That's just a proof other unsuccesful countries like Portugal can do the same.

Lighcity: Lighten up! Conchita was basically a novelty act during pre-esc season. Her song was good, but no one thought it'd win. But then when it really mattered, when it counted, she gave the best performance of the night. Period!

so if you know that RTP will never leave this and that they will stay in the same atitude, what do you think is the best for the country? stay in ESC? I really don't think, I am sorry!

Well, if that's true you can never expect success in Eurovision. And there is no one else to be blamed but your broadcaster for failures year after year.

I'd love for Leonor to return to ESC in a few years' time with another song. To me, her voice is bordering on orgasmic so I'd love to hear her find her own way as an artist and bring herself back to the contest xlove

No. I think we have the responsability of demanding RTP to do a better job! Instead of blaming Europe or diaspora or whatever, you should use all that anger and redirect it to whom it really is to blame.

I am not saying that the performance was not good, what I´ve said is that was not enough to win! Austria won just because the Lady_man with her beard! the europe gay community voted in Austria, the same happened with Israel and Dana International!! absolutely the same case!

But with another genre, or at least another tones... she could hardly get to some notes today (and in all her live performances I have seen).

And you really think they will change their position? ahahaha...they didn´t move a finger since we are in ESC ( how many years? 56 years loosing?)
