Canada's got some strong chances for medals, especially in swimming and athletics. Don't count out "Phil Wizard" in breaking either!

Morocco we have like two hopes, El Bakkali in 3000m Steeple is probably safe gold medal, maybe in football our team can make miracles again

Belgium we can get some medals from cycling, gymnastics, there's Thiam in the heptathlon, maybe in doubles in tennis with Gille/Vliegen and if we find someone good to play with Mertens (she's N°1 with Hsieh in doubles, but yeah Hsieh is from Taiwan), basket-ball with the girls, and maybe some horses shit

My main focus from a neutral fan point of view will surely be tennis

the demise of Germany from a formerly big sports nation to European average will speed up drastically. I bet we won't even make the Top 10 of medal table this summer. If there weren't these sports that hardly anybody actually cares about except for us (Horses and Canoeing and shit) things would look even more miserable.

It's more about the stories than the medals in my view. We almost never hear about sailing outside of the olympics honestly. Still we are predicted three golds or something like that. While the 400m hurdles for women will be a big story this olympics where even a silver medal is going to be big news!

I wouldn't dismiss Germany so easily. Compared to many other countries, Germany is still a powerful nation. I'm positive that Germany will win more medals than what's left of Russia.

Regarding the Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN), which are 15 Russian athletes and 16 Belarusian athletes, it will be interesting to see how many medals, if any, they will win.

i expect the United States, Great Britain, and China to be in the top three of the medal table.

To me olympics aren't only about nations, because nowadays even more with all that war shit outside why would only care for the countries fighting each other in sports as well. The athletes alone are enough to cheer for

We can expect swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis to give us another stellar show for gold, during an evening full of packed events in Stade de France alone. I hope the weather brings us beautiful sights as the cyclists ride over the pavé passages of Montmartre in front of Sacré coeur. And on the other half of the world at the shores of Tahiti surfing helds its events.

Many more stories will happen, we should be happy to enjoy them.

One of my favourite athletes ever and the best hammer thrower ever - Anita Włodarczyk - is gonna be a flagbearer of :pl:

She is the only woman on Earth who threw the hammer beyond 80m and did it numerous times. I hope she will win OG for the 4th time as she did previously in 2012, 2016 and 2020.

There is a jinx that the ones who hold :pl: flag during the parade never win an Olympic medal but I believe she will break the curse. I keep my fingers crossed!

It's a miracle that many Ukrainians are going to compete and even set new milestonesxhugMost of our athletes train in other countries (kudos to federations all over the world for saving our sport). But it's a new language, new bureaucracy, constant thoughts where to find money and how to combine it with sports career, and of course there's daily pressure because of war and relatives who stayed here.
Unfortunately, a lot of athletes will never witness this Olympics because they were murdered. And I will keep in mind those in the front line, of course they're gonna watch xcheers

As for my preferences. I stopped caring about sports which are predominantly evaluated & affected by human judges. That's why I like athletics xheart, rowing or swimming where such influence is minimal. I stopped caring about gymnastics (used to train on the rings) and boxing long time ago. As much as I like certain athletes, the "judging" should go. And this will happen eventually with the introduction of AI (oh, I bet some federations will be opposed as hell ).

I cheer for :ua: Yaroslava Mahuchikh. She has already set the epic world record 2 weeks ago xxclap but even if she won't improve it, I hope she gets gold. I used to help our HJ trainers in my city and we're gonna watch the whole thing super emotionally xclap. Ukraine will debut in the 1st breakdance events ever. Our men's football team has qualified for the 1st time in history.

Of course I'm gonna cheer for :pl: Iga Świątek, :us: Coco Gauff, :nl: Sifan Hassan (4 f-en events!!! 1500, 5000, 10000 and marathon xfaint), :se: Mondo Duplantis, :jm: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, :uk: Katarina Johnson-Thompson, :tr: Mete Gazoz etc.

I like almost all sports, so I'll try to watch as much as possible xcheer

:fr: I'm impressed by the new and temporary venues. I've got a feeling that this can become my most fave OG.

We'll apparently have a female and a male flag bearer again.
People could vote for their favorite in a poll but the final result gets public on thursday only
The contenders you could choose between are
Alexandra Popp (Football), Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (Dressage Riding) and Anna-Maria Wagner (Judo) for the women
and Dennis Schröder (Basketball), Alexander Zverev (Tennis) and Christian Reitz (Shooting) for the men

Except for Schröder all these athletes won Olympic medals before

:lv: team will consist of 29 athletes. This is the lowest number at the Summer Olympics since regaining independence in the 90s. I don't think there are many chances for medals, but I hope for some surprises.

Main hopes:
  • Men's 3x3 basketball team
In the previous Olympics Latvia got gold in this event. Now the squad has changed by half (2 the same, 2 new). Competitors from other countries have also grown. I think the main favorites for the gold will be Serbia, but the fight with the others could be interesting and equal.

  • Women's Beach Volleyball Team
54421.png

Tīna and Anastasija reached the semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics, but finished in 4th place. They are two-time European champions, have won several medals in the stages of the Beach Pro Tour. I really wish them all the best, but the competition will be hard.

  • Javelin throwers Anete Sietiņa and Līna Mūze-Sirmā
Last year at the World Championship Anete Sietiņa (née Kociņa) was in the medals position until the last attempts but in the end she was pushed to the 4th place, Līna Mūze-Sirmā was in the 9th place, and a year before in Eugene - in the 6th place. 7th and 8th place respectively in the European Championship this year. Both of them are often close to the elite, but have never been on the podium in a major competition.

  • Tennis player Jeļena Ostapenko
She has great memories of Paris from 2017 when she won French Open. She is currently ranked 11th in the WTA ranking. The last season is not too successful. She could surprise or to fail and being eliminated in one of the first rounds.

  • Sports shooters Lauris Strautmanis and Agate Rašmane
I don't know much about this sport. They have both won medals at the World Championships last year. It is very difficult to predict anything.

I don't think others will make high places, maybe road racing cyclist Toms Skujiņš will surprise, he was in 4th place in one of the stages of this year's Tour de France also he was second in Strade Bianche. The star of the future could be BMX rider Veronika Stūriška, she is only 18 years old. She is last year's junior world champion and this year's U-23 champion, but it will be difficult in the adult competition.

Latvian flag bearers will be beach volleyball player Tīna Graudiņa and 3x3 basketball player Nauris Miezis. It's interesting with their surnames match. Miezis in translation means "barley", Graudiņa is the diminutive of "grain".
