COMPETING THEMES (177)

1. All Around The World: a real-world country is chosen by the host. All artists competing in this event must be from the chosen country. In the case of groups, the majority of people in the group must be from the country. The song can be in any language.

2. AATW type of Spinoff but with NSC nations

3. AI Cover Spinoff

4. Covers & Remixes 5: everyone has to send cover or remixed version of a song previously entered in the main contest, including the original versions of songs whose covers or remixes were entered in NSC.

5. Major/Minor: songs changed from major into minor key (and vice versa)

6. NSC ESC Classic: any entry from any year allowed

7. NSC NF

8. Oldies: tba, the host can decide the timeframe

No nations participating, just an event where everyone can vote for their favorites of all Gaga entries throughout NSC's history (there's been 28 as of this edition, enough to make a full final as observed by David in the convo).

Speaking of, I guess the possibility of NSC ESC 23 should be raised. I’m not the biggest fan of it, and I know it has its opposition, but considering we’ve done it every year until now, seems a shame to not give it an airing.

If it doesn't win the poll, I would volunteer to host it as a forum game - similar to what Vaso hosted with the winners from all decades a couple of years ago!

NSC ESC 2023 (I know it's a bit late for this theme, but I guess if the majority votes for it, we will have it. Or we can have it now, and after it finishes we can have this poll's winner. Or we can combine it with 2024 when the time comes... feel free to share any other thoughts regarding it!)
Barbie edition - with whatever that fills the vibe.
Oppenheimer - with whatever fills the vibe.
Barbenheimer - send two polar opposite songs.
Boogenre 2 - the spinoff's name being a combination of "boog" and "genre", participants had to send an entry from a genre that they don't usually like.
Effifestivalen 4 - you send a different song for each other participant. Then everyone votes for a list of songs chosen specifically for them.

Question.
Should we strictly follow the theme of "polar opposites", as in do the two songs need an obvious yin yang-connection to each other (such as one song title being the antonym of the other), or is it fair game to just send any two songs that "fit the vibe" with Barbie and Oppenheimer respectively?

What I had in mind is two songs that contrast stylistically, for example kpop + black metal. If they fit the respective movies' vibes that's fine, but it's not required.

I hope it’s the polar opposites. I voted for this theme assuming it had that rule, not just “send songs in the vibe of Barbie and Oppenheimr”. There were two other spin-off choices for just vibes after all. But yeah, I guess as you say, Barbie theme and Oppenheimr theme would be polar opposites anyway.

How likely is it that we'll get a covers spinoff any time soon?

I'm just wondering because I discovered a great instrumental but it's of a song that was already sent to NSC. (I think it's really different than the original but I guess a cover is still a cover.)
