I think delegations have know understand that vulgarity and no melody will mean zero jury support.

just to make it clear:
gimmicks aren't ALWAYS a bad thing. they can be great fun and all that.

i am talking about the trends.
we had 15 yrs (more or less) of circus. most of the participants were going for a shock, trash, and such.
many ppl watched esc only to have something to laugh at. (that is probably the saddest part)
in that period esc lost a lot of viewers (not everyone is for trash entertainment + music quality was quite low).

trash element dissappeared almost completely.
that was my point xshrug

Indeed, the days of choreographies doing well are kinda over... some countries do rely on gimmicks but I'd say they are pretty much irrelevant to the final result. Greece this year would do well, with or without the trampoline...

Then again, they compensate for a more entertaining show! I don't mind the odd gimmick here & there. Just as long as it follows the 'less is more' principle - yeah, I'm talking about you Svetlana Loboda.

Rona didn't have any gimmick on stage...

No but the song itself and the manner in which it was sung wasn't something people were expecting. Strange probably isn't the best way to describe it....

You don't need a gimmick to be strange or a little unusual.

That's what I meant. ;)

As to gimmicks, I was also talking about trashy gimmicks. Smart gimmicks are always nice and even add something to the show, but they don't have to be more important than the song itself (cf Ukraine 2011).
