Feel free to give your top 3 of any nation in Eurovision. I wish the USA could be part of Eurovision. Would be very interesting to see the music choices.
Awesome!! As an American, I really appreciate you saying that. I do think that America would need to be more open to outside culture before they could successfully integrate. We have a tendency as a country to try and take over everything and make it about money. Hopefully one day as a country we can improve our cultural tolerance and join in the fun! We do have such a dynamic music scene the possibilities would be endless.

Now, hopefully the goodwill will continue because I am going for Melfest actually. It is the one I have watched the most.

1. Amazing - Danny Saucedo 2012 (Truthfully, I love this song more than I should lol. It certainly wouldn't have outperformed Euphoria, but it is a bop all the same and my kind of bop!)

2. Jag Ar Fri - Jon Henrik Fjallgren 2015 (I love a good joik. I would have been ecstatic to see him represent the Sami at Eurovision and he was so close)

3. Air - Marcus & Martinus 2023 (I know they are Norwegian, but I love this song so much. Would have preferred this over unforgettable)

And for kicks and giggles I will add my honorable mention
H.M. Dandi Dansa - Danny Saucedo 2021 (yea….i kinda like Danny Saucedo lol)

As an American I present:

GREAT MOMENTS IN AMERICANS INVADING EUROVISION SELECTIONS

First, Chicago's own Aldegunda's legendary :lt: breezy, seductive lesbian cabaret number "I Want Your Love." Clever lyrics, an amazing guitar line, and holy shit that bridge...when I say WANNNWANNNNWANNNNNN.

Second, former Palm Beach, FL criminal Gunilla Persson with "I Won't Shake (La La Gunilla)." If this had been a Countess Luann-style slice of trash, that probably would've been enough for me, but instead we got this delightfully weird song that sounds more like outsider music than anything else I could reference.

Third, one-time American Idol auditioner Lindita Halimi's "S'të fal," which I didn't love in studio or on the final, but for these few minutes in the FiK semifinal, was pretty magical.

I promise we have people in this country who are not blonde women. You would maybe not believe it from my choices. But we do.

:be:
1. She's after my Piano- 2 Fabiola(2014)
2. El Mundo Bailando - Belle Perez (2006)
3. Ik ga dood aan jou- Bart Herman (1993)

Each song has become a bigger hit than the one actually participating

Btw have you listened to older Melodifestivalen years from the 80s and 90s and 00s?
Here and there but I need to definitely look into it more. I got into Eurovision in 2023 so I am still catching up on all my history and classics. I have only made it as far back as the early 2010s, when they made the big overhaul. I know the winners and strong contenders, like "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley", "Fangad av en Stormvind", "Take me to your heavan", etc. You know the standard fair. Fangad av en Stormvind and Digg-Loo Diggi-Ley are two of my all time favorites. If you have any direct suggestions, by all means, send them my way.

That also goes for anyone from any countries with a strong cultural song catalog. I am always down for listening and opening my eyes to more cultural fair from around the world.

Here is a summary of Melodifestivalen 1986 on Youtube of that very good year. At that time there were just a final. Also 1987 and 1988 were good. In 1987 the american singer Cyndee Peters took part.

Cyndee Peters was in Melfest? What the heck I had no idea lol. She is from a town that is like a 30 min drive from me. That is wild. Well, I'll be damned, an American singing in Swedish, I love it!

Thanks for the suggestions, when I get home from work, I will be listening for sure! It is kind of wild to look at a Melfest setlist and only see 10 songs lol. What a time.

I hope she is well she lived in Sweden for many years. The 1980s was a time of optimism and the music was great hits every week or month both in Europe and America and the decade ended with the fall of the Berlin wall.

As far as I know, she is still around but have not heard anything about her in years. Oh I know, what a time to be alive! We could all use some good optimism in our lives.

I guess there is a need for an interested TV network in the USA to contact EBU if America ever will join the contest. There is also the problem with the time difference but not as big as with Australia. The challenges with the American song contest was that the winner didnt get the chance to compete in Eurovision for its country that would have given it a better start and ofcourse it take some time to grow and establish an interest. The alternative would be to have a South and North American contest.

Sadly, the problem runs a tad deeper with America being in the ESC-sphere. We have a lot of dedicated ESC fans here but not enough. Since none of our networks are state sponsored and it is an entirely public market, those networks would only be interested in how much money they could make off the contest. The other issue is just exposure. Sad thing is, most Americans don't even know that Eurovision is more than a Will Ferrell movie and even more don't know that the ASC even happened. We can't even access the videos and footage from that contest since it is owned by the EBU and the demand for it here isn't high enough.

I think more Europeans know of the failed American Song Contest then Americans do. The goal would need to be for American fans to garner support throughout the country and creating a demand that would force a broadcaster to take action. The challenge is building up a digestible reason to get interested. One thing I run into when I try to get other interested is explaining why. The majority think that it is another American Idol and don't realize the cultural impact a song contest can have. To us, the only reason to have a contest is to win a recording contract or money. It would take a major shift in the public mindset to make it happen.

The only hope would be for someone very high up in one of those privately owned broadcasters to take the initiative of gaining entry to the contest. Australia got invited because there was a massive demand for it nationally. Since we just recently started being able to watch the contest and last year got us involved in the voting, they are definitely trying to feel out the possibility but I dont see it happening in the next decade without a major shift in public opinion.

Im glad to hear that you are trying to make other americans interested in the contest. Would be nice to hear some real country or bluegrass performed under the american flag in Eurovision the swedish attempts in Melodifestivalen have been poseurs. :)I dont know if a letter to every exec of leading networks would do if they even read letters these days. An email to the company would do. Seeing it as the olympics of music is a good explanation. But im convinced appart for the fun it is money to be made for the american broadcasting company who becomes a member of EBU and gets Eurovision. Although it also comes with a fee and the risk of winning. Perhaps a letter to Elon Musk would be the best bet he has the money. Im surprised he hasnt invested in the movieindustry yet.

It will be a slow process and will entirely depend on the public opinion. The Australians had been in the contests sphere for decades before they were invited in. I will always do what I can to spread the word. Hopefully one day we can join in the fun.

Here one of the best MF songs that were never sent to Eurovision. But i supported Stad i ljus to win that year 1988 especially since Tommy Körberg singed. Om igen though as a song and Lena Philipson was great. She had three brilliant songs in the 1980s that were all better then her Eurovision entry in 2004.
