Streets are now saying it wasn’t the BBC who complained but RTÉ…
Apparently it was confirmed on BBC Radio 4 that the BBC didn’t complain - the digging continues!Since RTÉ has submitted a JESC song to Basel, it wouldn't be far-fetched.
Desperation and a hefty stench of it coming off Malta. To try and claim it’s discrimination does a real disservice to actual discrimination that goes on in the world. A shameless and shameful statement on their part. The Maltese broadcaster attempts to spread the narrative that the EBU is discriminating the Maltese language because they asked PBS to censor the one and only word in Maltese in the song.

🇲🇹 Malta: PBS in Discussions on Appealing EBU's "Kant" Ruling - Eurovoix
The Executive Head of the Maltese broadcaster has stated that PBS is in discussions on appealing the EBU ruling on "Kant".eurovoix.com
It's quite a desperate attempt to turn things around. I mean, it wouldn't have been an issue if the whole chorus was sung in Maltese.
Trying to portray the EBU as discriminators is ridiculous and pathetic.
The EBU tried to make "Kant" happen and even praised the "comeback of the Maltese language" after so many years.
Seriously, they should drop that narrative ASAP and find a creative way to save the song.
Maybe Malta complained about themselves?Apparently it was confirmed on BBC Radio 4 that the BBC didn’t complain - the digging continues!

The BBC are bound by a lot of things such as impartiality which they ignore all the time. I don’t see an issue with the one Maltese word which sounds like a word some people find offensive. There seems to be an awful lot of things being said so I'll give you my perspective here.
Firstly, this is not the BBCs fault directly. They are bound by OFCOM, which is the UKs broadcast regulator and they are pretty strict on what can be and can't be said before 9pm, even before we knew about this, the BBC couldn't play Kant on the radio purely cause or this reason.
Secondly, people seem to forget that the EBU can't just decide to say to Malta to change their song. They would of had to have looked at the song carefully beforehand and Yes, I do think the EBU should not be coming out a week before the deadline saying the song should be changed and there are double standards.
Overall, people shouldn't be directing their anger towards the BBC, but rather OFCOM who are the rule makers here.
If they care so much about the Maltese language maybe have more than 1 word of Maltese in the song next time! The Maltese broadcaster attempts to spread the narrative that the EBU is discriminating the Maltese language because they asked PBS to censor the one and only word in Maltese in the song.

Exactly on point! At least Malta should have kept the whole song in Maltese, then I would have had no problem with the word "Kant", it would have been more believable. But to me it just sounds cheap.Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. They knew exactly what they were doing and that this was always a possibility, they must now swallow the consequences.
When did some ESC-songs get so cheap-ish.When did y’all get so prudish
Well Randajad starts with "kurwa"Check γαμα με in Greek
Kuula (Estonia 2012) also meant something vulgar in Greek that I can't recall but as I said, we Mediterranean people don't take everything seriously//make a fuss about misheard lyrics![]()
