Malmö Arena was chosen as the venue for next year's ESC.

sooo wrong. when sweden can make wonderful show with about 60 k seats in Stockholm, they choose Malmo with 3 times smaller arena. i can't believe it's true...

This is definitely a bad decision and probably very unpopular. Political/economical pressure from outside Sweden? EBU's broadcaster members want to scale down the competition? 35000 tickets for Stockholm Friends arena would easily be sold out in Sweden alone. SVT regional support policy? DR bribe?

Most important: There will be very few tickets for sale to ordinary people. :(

I really was hoping for Stockholm. An ESC in such a big arena also worked in Düsseldorf, why couldn´t it work in Stockholm?

I just can't believe it, this is such a fucking scandal!! Malmö is impossible to pronounce in english as well as being a really ugly city compared to beautiful Stockholm. Just a horrible decision which takes me back to socialist Sweden in the 70-s. Friends arena will have the Swedish national finals!! I mean come on!!

Besides this is the antisemit city that couldn't allow an Isreali tennis team to play bc of security reasons. Really hope Israel will pull its act in protest!

SVT can go screw themselves gaaaah!!!

I am shocked but not upset. I still think that the enormity of the arena is not important. There were excellent Euro in Finland and Serbia, with small arenas.

Uuugh! Please.
Malmö is not an ugly city, it's an unique metropol with its proximity to København. A really nice and fun city with night clubs for any taste and there is always København if things are not enough. If anything it is missing nature, things todo outside the city.

The thing is: The arena isn't big enough, simple as that!

Björkman/SVT want to make ESC 2013 multicultural. Both Stockholm and Malmö are multicultural (Stockholm because it's the capital and biggest city, Malmö because it's so far down south (and connected to the rest of Europe, as they like to brag about)) but Malmö is the politically correct choice.

Dream on girl. Nobody believes in some confused extreme right wing conspiracy theories. Hate it! SVT is a broadcasting media creation company with a budget and a market policy. Politics have nothing todo with this. I would say Christer Björkman is crying right now, getting drunk and banning the SVT management for robbing his win!

Did Denmark just win Eurovision? Feels like it... And yes Malmö is butt ugly compared to my home town Stockholm. I can't get over this, has to be a bad joke. Must be budgetary reasons and the argument of multi-culturalism is even more true in Stockholm.

This is even worse than giving Russia and Qatar the world cups and that was a clear sign of bribery...

I'm not an extreme right wing conspiracist (but I figured you'd say something like that about my post). It was just a theory about why Malmö won over Stockholm, just like your theories about bribes and political pressure from outside Sweden. Relax.

Haha, no doubt Stockholm is a shining star and the capital of Sweden. I wouldn't call Malmö a beautiful city but it's not ugly.:)

Yes, I also think budgetary reasons. Could be Friends arena is too expensive renting for 6 weeks and arena management not flexible enough.

Note that multi-culturalism is only mentioned in the headline of the SVT article. A typical tease of a headline journalist and a really stupid one I think.
