Time for me to review the Lithuanian entry this year
Vaidas & Monika - This Time
Status: Hell no xsnooty
Song: First of all, I have to say that to me, Lithuania in Eurovision is always a spoilsport because they send mediocre songs and qualify most of the time to the detriment of some better entries. This year is no exception to me, how on earth "This Time" could qualify over the rest? Each to their own I guess, but I don't buy this song at all. This is a folky song, kinda pretty to listen to at the beginning but it seems to drag on after a while. The chorus and its countless "loooove" are just so annoying and to me fail to make up for the poor composition of this song. Cheesy and sparse lyrics as expected. Yes, I agree it is a little bit reminiscent of Malta last year in its mediocrity. This is a very simple effort, too simple and formulaic probably. Vaidas said during an interview that they thought it was a perfect song for the contest... Well, did you Watch the contest lately? Anyway, thank you for making me endure this song twice.
Voice: ok voices, they aren't particularly beautiful but considering the song, they do the job. The performances were ok, I mean it's not that hard to sing either so...
Staging: not that much happening. I didn't like Monika's dress, she looked like a Swiss tavern waitress
The background screen wasn't pleasing to the eye with this variation of the Macedonian flag, and the gimmick that everyone fell for - the kiss - is just out there and pitiful. Sometimes people are excited for really unsignificant things :? I would have understood if they were indeed together in real life, but that obvious awkwardness between them during interviews is just
Outcome: Disgrace! How come they qualified in the first place? Totally undeserved to me. And still 18th place while some great songs bombed... No, I'm sorry, I can't with this. In my personal ranking, Lithuania is at the bottom, this is one of my least favourite songs this year and definitely the worst of semi 2 imo. Sorry Lithuania, I never loved any of your entries since I started watching the contest in 2009.
But hope never dies, as they say
so maybe next year?
