I got some insider info from a friend of a friend - the Latvian selections were allowed to submit demos, and were not informed these demos would be released before meeting the contestants in person (contrary to the previous years). The only warning was an email two hours before they went up online. Some of the title's of the songs changed in the first two days, probably by the artist's request, 'cos I guess some had working titles. So there's all sorts of stuff there. Some of the songs don't have endings, and one sounds like the song's been recorded live with a phone.

Keep in mind that I'm a bit of a tap, especially at the moment, but I just copped a listen of "Esamība" at William Lee Adams' recommendation and teared up by the end. Stunning song.

Soledad is a good one.
I know, it's the latvian version of Despacito, but I can't help, I'm into this kind of music...

"Esamība" is also one the songs that really caught me, there is this calm but constant energy that builds up, especially through the strings in the background. The constant changing of the two rhythms, the beautiful latvian language! I just love it!

Supernova was by far an away the best quality national final in 2017.

Then why Latvia was the last in semi-final in Kyiv ?

I don't have much hope for 2018, Latvia will be again among the last places.

I don't have much hope for 2018, Latvia will be again among the last places.

It happens sometimes... but for sure in terms of unique compositions, originality and production values of the songs Supernova 2017 was incredible. Not sure 2018 shows the same promise so far but we'll see...

I've been listening to Esamība and crying for like 2 days straight lol ... Absolutely one of my favourite songs I've ever heard in a selection!! Do the right thing, Latvia

Almost all my favourites are out and did not advance to the live auditions: "Baltic", "Divi Cilvēki", "IKA". How unfortunate! Many fans are going hard for "Esamība", but "YOU" is such a beautiful composition as well. If Latvia goes the ballad way, I hope they pick that one.

There were two songs that stayed in my mind - and both advanced to the live auditions.

As for "You", in some parts this reminds me vaguely of Frans. And I quite liked Frans.

-Okay now "Stop the war u2" is my favorite
-I'm really shocked that "Baltic" and "Staccato" didn't make it... I thought people like it:?
-And ofc. my rock'n'roll jam is out, but i'm not that surprised
-and "Despacito" is a good song, but it shouldn't advance in the next round imo
-obviously, i don't get the hype for Esamība
-and i see that the worst song for me made it (1000 roses)
