It's very simple, the show will go live in the USA this year for the first time, his song was written or co-written by Swedes and they kinda made a deal. Simple.

I don't mind it. I don't watch interval acts anyway.

I think that Americans can make it 3 hours without listening to their shitty music on TV. We are bombed with American music every fuvking day, can we just keep it out of Eurovision? Thank you. Eurovision is a celebration of European music for fuvk sake. WTF is this?

PS : I can understand Australia because they aired the show for more than 30 years! But US never even aired it. Why should we promote their music? No.

I'm glad it's him and not Rihanna or Beyonce etc. THAT would have been a disaster.

I would not be surprised if JT offered a huge amount of money to be able to promote his song during the show. Surely he needs to gain some popularity, have we actually heard anything from him the last couple of years? I can personally only remember his time being with Britney Spears (that was like 15 years ago, when he wore that gorgeous, ahum, jeans suit lol) and the Madonna collab.

(oh and surely ESC/SVT need the money...)

Did they need a replacement for the refugee dance act or is that still on?

So the Swedes have decided they cannot pull it off themselves convincingly and need outside help? That's basically a confession of incompetence. I would never have expected it from them.

Come on, Sweden! You have a lot of international artists that people pay for to see live (Avicii, Tove Lo, Lykke Li, etc...) and you call an American to perform as interval act? I think I'm getting to the conclusion that Sweden should be forbidden to ever host Eurovision again...

Interval act involving Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black performing this lovely song:
The title should be changed to 'Saturday' though.

"Friday" is a good song actually, it's better than many fanwanked ESC-songs.

BTW I can tolerate the fact that :au: is taking part but once :us: is in, the contest will become another commercial crap. Stay tuned - soon acts like this will become common at Eurovision:

And of course, EBU had to choose Justin Timberlake to perform as an interval act, and not for example Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey or Madonna... -_-

In all seriousness, I actually do agree that Justin Timberlake is a loathsome performer.

I'm kind of torn...

...I actually like Justin Timberlake, he's a pretty good showman and his music style kind of fits the whole Eurovision sound of this year: more current, well-produced and craftet, and I like the single he's going to perform.

On the other hand, I can't help but think SVT is putting so much on his plate: an American superstar, a "refugee" theme, the changing in the vote process, the big 5 singing in the semi-finals... I'm afraid, they're throwing too many things at once and changing for the sake of change that they'll forget to actually make them right. Is SVT in the stock exchange and they need to please the investors somehow or what? Because even when I know it's a public broadcasting company, this looks like classic "Bullcrap Business School Tactics 101".

Such great news! Justin's fab and it will do wonders for Eurovision's credibility.

I hadn't thought of it as a US interval and I'm not sure it is, but if it is then I'm happy. The United States is European in its culture and the sooner they're in the contest, the better!
