People keep saying Estonia, but their entry last year was more or less in the same genre, and far superior, and the juries actually hurt it instead of helping it when comparing to the televoting results.

As usual we expect the juries to vote for big voice-ballads, but as we can tell from the past, it's not always the case. Israel, Australia and Belgium all did really well with them, while Italy didn't. And of course Sweden is a perennial favorite.

With that said, I'm thinking Sweden, France, Armenia, Ukraine and Australia should do well with them.

Am I the only one having really big trouble figuring out what kind of a song the jury will like?

I mean in 2011 Italy won the jury voting by a huge margin with a classy modern jazz song and last year Sweden won the jury voting with an incredibly generic song with pretty bad lyrics on top of that (yes, I'm Swedish lol).

It's a mystery to me that Estonia got such a bad reception from the juries in 2015, which will probably mean that the juries probably won't like this years entry either, as others have written before me.

Nah, the jurors always confuse loudness for powerfulness, volume for emotion, etc.

It's a good thing that the last 30 seconds of "Play" are louder than anything in "Goodbye to Yesterday", I guess...

Aminata was loved by juries last year, but I don't know if Justs has that same jury appeal. It probably will do well with them though. Australia will probably be ranked high by them, and I wouldn't count Iceland and Hungary out either. Norway depends on the vocals, and ofc, Sweden is a jury pet year in year out, so Frans could do well with rhem too. On the other hand, I see Russia and Cyprus as the countries with significantly more televote than jury support.

once again, Jury and televoters are "almost" the same.
Juries are supposed to work in the music industry but it's still people, we don't ask them to vote with a "musician" ear but we allow them to vote like this only because they're working in the industry. Some will actually judge the songs with their skills, some will just rank the songs like us, with their feelings.
The fact that there's less people than televoters means that one jury is far more powerful than any televoter and as they're different each year you just can't predict their judgement. Maybe if we take the jury from 2016 they would have put Italy first last year ? or Australia ? We'll never know.

The only thing I noticed : they will kill an entry if it's "too much" for them and only if the song is not that good (Poland 2014), i do think they found Italy way too stereotypical (but they still ranked it well cause the song was great) where Sweden was just current ""normal"" music with a melody (Poland didn't have one). I don't have the truth but that's how i figured i out. So you have to own a "decent" entry at their eyes, still melodic but also entertaining in its way (Estonia was not "entertaining" (for TV) at all).

If the Juries favoured Sweden last year I think it could be something similar this year..

:mt: ? :is: ? :ru: ?

or if they go for something like they usually do..

:hr: :au:

I think :at: will do well in the jury vote too!

I think and hope that :it: will score relatively will with the juries.
And also  has a song that on the first listening might seem just strange... but after a couple of listenings of more I guess it may get jury votes - when they get used to the tempo-change.
:cz: might also be more popular with juries than televoters; hopefully a great vocal - and no diaspora or good neighbours to help them in the televotes.

Personally, I was entertained :p And Norway was still ranked 7th while there was absolutely nothing happening on stage. xthink With Estonia in 11th place, Cyprus in 9th place, and Latvia just below Sweden... I came to the conclusion that there isn't any logic in the jury voting if we compare it with visuals or music.

Imho juries won't vote for what has been voted for last year. Copycats tend to fail and never have a good chance.
That applies especially for the juries, more than the televoters.
Songs like Estonia will have a chance this year (I don't see any resemblance to Estonia 2015 tbh) whereas songs like Iceland 2016 and I am afraid probably Latvia 2016 won't do to well with the juries.

Messy camera angles. over acting. Stereotypical song. Norway had a kind-of a climax, Latvia was just good from top to bottom and I guess people are more nicer with "honest" entries as Cyprus 2015 (keep it simple but not empty squirrel friends). That's how I see it.
I really don't like Estonia 2015 but even if... That was I'm calling a very bad staging and i do think they deserve that place while Slovenia should have been higher (to compare with another fan wank song)
