Happy Birthday! And I'm so happy that you qualified with one of my favorite ESC artists in recent years (his new album by the way is amazing, I listened to it on Spotify last week)

Re: *~Israel ישראל~* WV88 The Idan Raichel Project - She'eriot Shel Ha'chaim

I honestly have no idea what to do next edition...
I have only mediocre songs on my list and I won't send Queen Dana into a semi (and a likely failure...) :(

Re: *~Israel ישראל~* WV89 ???

Though I have a few songs for :ba:de and :ir:
I won't give up my baby yet.

I think I have a song for next edition xcheer
Furthermore I have 1-2 songs which are on YT only with the cover, so if one of the creative people
here would be willing to make a small (nothing special) music video, I would be really grateful!
(maybe Trece ? xpray )

Re: *~Israel ישראל~*

This song became very special to me and Yuval turned into one of my favourite artists.
So this failure is more than painful xcry
I guess my taste is not made for WV cause I really don't understand why this song failed.
Especially in such a weak semi.

I really don't want to see others of my favourite Israeli artists to fail like this...
I have sent 37 entries for :il: and none of them reached anything noticeable.
That's why for now I'm withdrawing
Maybe someone else will pick Israel in the future and bring WV to Jerusalem or Tel Aviv :)

Thanks to everybody who supported my entries during these years xhug

Re: *~Israel ישראל~*

Amir:cry: I'm sad to read that. I think there's a lot to be proud of with your Israel, and when I look at your history section here i'm seeing a lot of green. I think I can understand your feelings because you want that "i'm on top" feeling, if just once. And I know you don't want to risk sending your ultimate queen without a PQ. I don't blame you as it's really hard sending artists that are so special to you. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. I'm not going to try and force you to change your mind, but I will miss you. Your entries are often beautiful and very reflective. So many lovely folk and acoustic songs, and then you've got your fun pop side too. The contest won't be the same without your Israel. That country has a special way with melody.

Thank you very much Rainy for your warming words xrunhug
You got the heart of it: For most of my entries I try being reflective. I want to deliver unknown songs, that reach many people. And when a song like Eviatar's "Yeladim" reaches an 8th place, this almost feels like a victory.
But too often that reflectiveness is not being rewarded, and people prefer to vote for songs that rached the top of the charts of almost every continent.
That's not how I would want to win this. I know you'll understand this very well, I guess you feel similar

Yeah, I know exactly where you're coming from, and I played with that mindset for almost 20 editions straight (my self set rule was not to send chart hits). I could do it without even really thinking as the majority of my favourite songs and artists were alternative or quite obscure, but eventually I realized it was a bit silly how I was holding myself back by playing strictly in this way, and that the main and important thing for me was painting a collage of all the music I love, no matter how big or small.

The victory for me has always just been getting those obscure or more reflective entries through to the final. Anything on top of that was a bonus. One of my favourite moments is still getting The Velvet Underground & Nico through to the final. They finished 18th, but that to me was everything as Nico is my queen (like Dana is to you) and the fact she squeezed through felt special. Taking those risks feels really horrible though, cause it does hurt sometimes when you miss with someone who's music has that deep a meaning to you. It's like you're sharing your heart with people and it's being judged. It's just a game you try and say to yourself but music isn't a game. It often goes a lot deeper.

For me personally it's just enough that particular types of songs have a place and audience in this contest, and I love how such polar opposite styles of music can sit besides each other and do well. But even though this is a casual and fun online music contest, I think songs still for the most part need that certain something (a competitiveness within them) to do extremely well. Your folksy sort of ballads from Israel are so beautiful but I guess they don't have the possibilities there to grab people usually not into that kind of thing, to push the songs over the line into medal territory. It's a more subtle kind of beauty those song have, and strong patience is required. I remember when I sent that Aldous Harding song and you were surprised it didn't do as well as my ballads usually do. Calvin said to me the first time he heard the song that it sounded like something you'd send from Israel (which I took as a big compliment). Some songs are just too particular, and I just guess the more minimal and rustic you get, the harder it is to grab attention from multiple corners. It starts to get very specific. Coincidentally these songs are often a coin flip as to whether they even advance to the final, despite the fact they hold the power to do well enough once they reach there.

If I complained about big songs winning i'd be a hypocrite, as that's how I got my (hopefully) charmingly ironic winxshifty I can understand the feeling of not wanting to change what you're doing, but I hope you never held back songs you really, really loved just because they were big hits or whatever. Yes, it would have touched me to win with Judee Sill, Mikal Cronin etc and I would have felt obscenely proud, but heck it touched me winning with John Lennon and I somehow felt obscenely proud of that too as he's a special artist to me. What i'm saying is please assassinate kidnap a UK juror of your choice, send Adele or someone and then gift Dana International a one way forced ticket to London so that the PQ is sortedxheart

Sorry for the wall of text. I don't know how I wrote a four paragraph response to your single one. I can't help myself sometimes. Just wanted to let you know I feel what you're sayingxrunhug Medals or not, your songs certainly have reached people. I know i'm not alone in thinking this. There's going to be a hole left when you go that can't be filled. I'm sad but understand fully I think your feelings and reasoning.

Re: Israel

I am kind of devastaed right now. I may not like every single entry of yours, but there were a lot I really enjoyed. It's a double sadness for me to find out that you leave on Valentine's Day :( I hope one day you will come back. Or maybe you could switch to a different country/region?

Kayah was amazing, such a huge hit in Poland and great song :( I was really happy you sent it.

Thank you for music xheart
