I completely forgot about this by now... left no impression on me.
Shame as the song was good. Staging was wrong.

poor daniel! He's such a nice guy! But his performance was really not good enough tonight. One could literally feel his nervousness through the screen.
I wonder how many points he got from Austria, since he lives in Vienna and participated in a casting show here...

Daniel is such a fun guy and quite down to earth. He came into the press center yesterday just to chill and meet people. This is the reason why it is so difficult to see songs being eliminated as I get attached to the artists. That being said, I had this as a non-qualifier from the beginning and wouldn't be surprised if this finished last. Everything felt wrong. Yes, I didn't care for the song anyway as it feels like a wannabe American RnB song. But the staging was a disaster (it was even worse during rehearsals) and he messed up vocally during the jury show. I really want to root for Macedonia as they haven't had much success but there was no way this was going anywhere.

To start, the song was nothing special. So it was a very tough way from the beginning. And then, they fucked everything with that terrible staging, so if I had to bet who got the last place, I'd put my bet on :mk:

Well crafted song that integrated folk elements nicely. I didn't think it had a wow factor that would help it qualify, but I liked the fact that it didn't cheapen the song by putting in some fake loud element just for votes. It didn't compromise in that way and was definitely better than several that qualified, for instance the louder but less good Albania, and the really boring Romania, Armenia and the dull Estonian chorus. Maybe those songs got by on performance, but performance can't transform a dull song and those songs were duller.

The Eurovision press office has just announced the results from the FYR Macedonia and Montenegro have been disqualified.

"The jury results of FYR Macedonia and Montenegro for the grand final have been excluded after consultation of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the contest's independent voting observer, and upon the decision of the executive supervisor and the chairman of the reference group," it said.

"In both countries, televoting applied for 100%. The exclusion of two juries will be further discussed in the next reference group meeting in June."

For a second year in a row, quite a decent song gets destroyed by a terrible choreography. What were those black guys doing there?

I really like the song, I still like it, I wanted :mk: in the final so badly..........but the impression of his performance from last Tuesday is very bad, and he indeed didn't deserve to qualify.

The problem with this year's entry is called "I am not sure".
Daniel was not sure, to keep it a ballad or make it mid tempo?
Keep the same choreography or change it?

I'm surprised, Austra did not give more points in the televote. I thought Daniel was still better known here and would have sort of a home-advantage as he even lives in Vienna

Time for me to review the Macedonian entry this year :D

Daniel Kajmakoski - Autumn Leaves
Status: Hmm... :geek:

Song: "Autumn Leaves" is a peculiar song to me because I've listened to it one time live and 5/6 times on the cd and I still can't hum it to save my life. Not that a song that one can hum instantly is necessarily a quality song, but still, it seems like there is absolutely nothing about this one that I can remember, and that's not a good sign imo. I don't even know how to describe this entry: it starts like a ballad, and then comes a hip-hop-ish beat and a not-so-memorable chorus. It is a transparent song to me for now, I've absolutely no feeling whatsoever when listening to it and it does not seem to go anywhere either. In addition to that, the song is sung in English, while Macedonian could have been an attractive point of this act. No, I will certainly give it another chance, but I think it's really boring and middle-of-the-road at every level. There was nothing that could make it stand out among the other songs.

Voice: I guess Daniel's voice is ok, even though he wasn't that good during the live performance. Stress maybe. Anyway, I wasn't impressed at all, I liked the first seconds of it, but then I completely lost interest in it, so even performance-Wise, I couldn't appreciate it.

Staging: Strange staging. I liked the background screen (it was kinda dark though) but I didn't see the point of having these black men on stage, it was so coming out of the blue, but eh... Again, I wasn't convinced, I'm not sure about what they tried to do with this, everything seemed irrelevant at some point.

Outcome: No surprises for me. When I read here and there Macedonia was strong this year, I was so hoping for something striking. Imo "To The Sky" is miles ahead of this at all levels, yet it didn't qualify so, "Autumn Leaves" could not do better. Deserved non-qualification. Obviously, Macedonia is at the bottom of my personal ranking this year, you just can't allow yourself to send meh efforts considering your poor qualification record, you need a strong act to hope to get through. This wasn't to me, I'm disappointed. But please Macedonia, stay in the game and revamp your objective. :)
