Is there such a language as Macedonian? Or indeed Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian or Montenegrin?

From my experience of listening to the ESC songs of the ex-Yugoslav countries since 1993, all the ex-Yugoslav countries' languages sound the same to me. Are you sure they're not just different dialects of one language, i.e. Serbo-Croat?

Even if they are "the same", better to just use the word they want to use. Just like Moldovan language, some people can get upset if you just say it's the same as Romanian, so it's just better to use their preferred term.

I do too. The english studio version of the song anyway is a lot more powerful with the way Lozano sings his parts.

The English version is simply DREADFUL!!! I mean please, you're a native speaker... don't you hear the dreadful lyrics??? It also takes away the original and genuine feel of the entry... Balkan ballads should NOT be sung in English, it's ridiculous... can it be more out of place??

Are they even considering going with Macedonian/Romani only? If so I really really hope they'll keep it as it initially was meant to... NO English!!!

 The English version is nice! So much better than most of the English songs ("I feed you my love" sentence probably sounds 100x worse, not to mention bunch of the others that are considered as favourites to win. BUUUUT people ignore them, because they are madly in love with them ). Plus the English version is much more connected to the Roma parts that Esma is singing, than the Macedonian.

Anywayyy, there is a debate right now. And it seems that they might sing on Macedonian/Romani after all. ;)

I beg to differ, I find the English version really cheesy... and I'm still very opposing the idea of translating entries into desperate English... I actually started to like this entry, but the English just simply destroyed the liking I've built up for it. It just doesn't fit and it's cheesy as heck. But each to their own.

In what sense would the English feel more connected to the Romani parts? I just find it even more strange than the already "odd" mix... as for the Norwegian entry I'm not really a fan of it so I can't say much about that one.

How come? Have they done a rehearsal without English?

But... since you been gone, only the good times I remember. Nobody knows... o owwss... how hard it is for me A-Lister. Nobody knows. If I could change the lyrics only for you A-Lister, everything would be sung in native tongue. You'd be so happy. I'd force Sweden to sing in Swedish as well and i'd go back in time and change Euphoria to swedish:rolleyes:

I'd love Sweden to send an entry in Swedish finally, unfortunately SVT is one big propagandistic oikophobic anti-Swedish company and as you've seen most Swedish entries in MF are either joke entries or just entries without any chance.

Still though, there's a difference in translating an entry (as a move of desperate selling-out and lack of confidence) or sending an entry that is originally made in English... so I don't get your comparisons really.

I feel that countries are only being so desperate and changing their languages because it's sadly getting harder to get success (or at least a win) with anything thats not english. All these scandinavian countries and whatnot sending their songs in english and winning paints a message that the only way to win is with something in english.

That's the sad truth, but then why bother picking an entry in native language in the first place? Then it would be better to prepare an entry originally in English instead if they're going to change anyways... I mean the changes tend to be dreadful (like in this case)...

You know very well I want more native languages in ESC, I really don't approve of what ESC has turned into... :(

Well, apparently it was just a rumor that they would go back to the Macedonian/Romani only version... I really hope though it's not just a rumor but the actual truth!

And it's only going to get worse as Scandinavia continues to dominate the contest.

Well, as long as good entries in English wins and not these ridiculous ones like Russia's entry this year then it's atleast better...

I mean as much as I want more native languages in ESC, I still support good songs regardless of language used... BUT with that said a language CAN make it or break it for an entry because it's not isolated from the song itself... it's not "just a language"... and the Macedonian example is proof of that imo... the English version is just BAD... perhaps not the updated music, but the English doesn't fit and the lyrics are pathetic.

Anyways, my #1 this years is a Nordic country, but not in English ;)

GOO ICELAND! xcheer

I don't get why their entries are so hyped, especially this year. :? This year is like one of the worst for them, no offense, and yet they are all planned to end supposedly top15 in the final! xrofl

It seems they are going with Macedonian because they don't want to pay the changing fee plus 10% of their entry fee.
