any middle aged alcoholic with a bad smoking habit can do what he does. only in a better tempo and on key

And I think middle aged alcoholic's with bad smoking habits usually make good music. In fact, I think they often make the most interesting music. I like raw, rough voices like Kari has. It's rarely about the key or tempo for me. It's about the character of a voice. A lot of my favourite artists can barely hold a conventional tune such as Nico or Marianne Faithfull (nowadays). It really doesn't bother me. Some people think a conventional singing voice is important and that's fine, I don't however. I genuinely find something I like from Kari's voice and the song as a whole.

Well, the world is full of bad music videos... besides that video is funny as hell, too. It's a classic that Finns laugh at year after year.

Preview show in Finland

I actually like that order more than the orders from the Swedish, Estonian, and Icelandic preview shows…

The people have Swedish names and country names are in Swedish too, so I guess it's from some Swedish minority channel? And Serbia has wrong/old flag...

Me and my friends at our class bee (soaré in Swedish, a type of show), we did it just for fun and tried to be as weird as possible without being scary

I'm geoblocked from watching the actual video :( But applause for giving Essi more exposure!

PKN: "All the other songs are crap"

Finland’s Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät are currently in fifth place in the betting odds and the international press remain interested in their story. But so far the band, all of whom have special needs, haven’t attended any promo events outside of Finland. They have, however, given lots of concerts and interviews at home. In fact, in their most recent interview, they threw some major shade at the rest of the competition!

On Friday evening, lead singer Kari Aalto and bassist Sami Helle visited Puoli seitsemän, a talk-show produced by the Finnish broadcaster YLE. Sami confessed that he was a little tense ahead of Vienna, while Kari said that he’s feeling relaxed and positive. They also said that there would be no changes to the song or the performance for Eurovision, just “more smoke” on the stage.

During the interview, Sami also described his PKN bandmates. “I see Kari (the singer) 24 hours a day and I lose my nerves with him all the time. Toni (the drummer) is my best friend, but I can’t stand Pertti (the guitarist)”. Kari, however, said that Sami is a nice guy, but likes different things than he does. Total harmony, then!

The hosts kept the Eurovision questions coming and asked the band members if they had listened to any other songs from this year’s contest. Sami responded that they have listened to some songs while watching SVT’s panel show. “After us, I think all the songs were crap”. He said that all the songs were “typical schematic, old europop” and that he’s annoyed how the songs always repeat the typical Eurovision pattern.

----------

I haven't seen that interview. so I can't say...but I wouldn't be surprised as Sami said something similar during the UMK semifinal, right in the face of one of their competitors.

“typical schematic, old europop”xrofl

Oh dear, well it's difficult to excuse comments like that even when allowing some leeway for obvious reasons. They are just saying what they think though, like Mans was saying what he thought a couple of weeks ago about their song. When you're in a competition like this, you should bite your tongue, although I can imagine maybe it being a bit more difficult for the band to do. Throw any Punk band into Eurovision and they'd probably have the same kind of stuff to say.

We do know however that one of the members of PKN likes the Greek entry:lol:

Pertti Kurikka  That's maybe why Sami can't stand him

I hope they don't have a falling out at Eurovision itself:lol: Some of the best bands have fierce rivalries within though. Like Lou Reed and John Cale from the Velvet Underground hating each others guts on and off throughout the yearsxheat

I don't know the original interview, but it seems like (partly) a blow up from Wiwibloggs, too. Like him talking about listening to some songs in the panel show and all of them being crap. So "all" in this context is "all the few ones he has seen". And in the headline it becomes "all songs of this year are crap".

And he has a point with his critic about typical patterns, we don't have many songs this year that try to be different. Saying that songs are crap is not a right thing to do, though.

Yeah, this is very true.. and of course, they could have written an article about Mans questioning whether anyone would actually think "Aina mun pitää" was a good entry or not, but did they? I don't think so. It's easy for them to highlight the negative words of an artist they strongly dislike. Fortunately this won't put off any potential voters for PKN anyway, as it's mostly not going to be Eurovision fans voting for them. In fact, i'm sure the people voting for them will share their view of the other songs competing. I kind of agree with them actually. I'd like to think that they haven't heard Latvia yet thoughxlove They can't call Latvia "Crap"xgaah
