Barbara Pravi was interviewed on French TV: she is really happy about her song touching people who even don't speak French. About Måneskin she says that they won fair and square and even if they took drugs she doesn't care about it.

I think the language theme is a bit overhyped. Sure, there were non-English songs that did great, but if you take away the big languages, there is not much left: Four songs in the Grand Final, and all of them are from Eastern Europe.

+ we shouldn’t pretend like French and Italian aren’t one of the most beloved and common languages in Europe and Eurovision. Everybody acts as if it’s so innovative and refreshing that French and Italian songs do well, but every year we have French and Italian songs lol. Come on people.

Thank you for that! It's the job of one of my friend (for concerts/festivals, not tv) and she's amazed by how fast it's done on esc!

So a combination of being bored, as well as piquing my interest, made me do this o_O

I think the female bops took points off each-other. To see if this was true (and to see how each country performed by more than just the Top 10 televoters), I looked at the top 17 positions of each country's televoting and awarded points, 20, 18, 16, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

This will show how there were more voters for these songs, but they lost out against each-other ultimately.

For a comparison, I am using ‘Rock’ as Italy and Finland – ONLY to show a comparison. I know they are not the same version of ‘rock’.

For the purposes of this, I count one of the 'female bops' as Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Malta, San Marino, Greece, Serbia and Moldova.

In my revised scored based on Top 17 televoting:

Female bops’ scored a total of 1,331 points between them.

Rock’ scored 1,098 points between them.

The ‘Female bops’ received 233 more points than ‘Rock’.


In the actual televoting results:

‘Female bops’ scored a total of 380 points between them.

'Rock' scored 536 points between them.


Rock’ got 156 more televoting points than ‘Bops’.


To me this shows that the split of voting between the ‘bops’ ultimately hurt them from higher placings. But did NOT affect the eventual winner.


This was just out of interest, as mentioned :oops:

In the end, the "cancel each other" theory is sort of true-ish, but we were focusing on the wrong genre.

The five countries that gave Italy the least number of points: Israel (7), Ireland (6), Denmark (5), UK (3), Netherlands (2). (All participating countries gave points to Italy.)

The five countries that gave Italy the biggest number of points: Ukraine (24!), Bulgaria (22), Croatia (22), San Marino (22), and Slovenia (22).

Måneskin didn't get much out of the band's Danish name and having a half-Danish member of the band. However, all five points from Denmark came from the televoters, so you could say that this was the way it should be: The viewers possibly voting a bit patriotically, while the jury doesn't take such things into account.

I really like top 10 this year (and even more top 8 televote) : all my top 5 is in it, what a strange feeling, am I suddenly getting mainstream taste after years of seeing songs I like having bad results?!?!

Poor Germany. Basically the same average as Moldova - Moldova gets 62 points and 12th place in the televote, Jendrik gets 0 points and joint last.

I don't think the viewers voted patriotically in :dk:. I rather think they just like the song enough.
