Wonder if it ever crossed your mind
That what we had was really unbelievable, unbeatable, a miracle
Why'd you have to go and mess it up?
Why'd you have to make what was unbreakable shakable, unsavable?
And now it's too late to cross your fingers
I'm wide awake and not a dreamer
Hate it, but it seems the dreams were never true
For a little while the fates were with us
Wonder why they had to turn against us
I could make a wish, but there is no use

I can feel
Even though I'm numb
The change to come will hurt someone
I can see
This time it isn't me
I might be the lucky one

I don't need a crystal ball to show me
Baby, it is plain that you don't know me
When it comes to you I'm better off alone (Better off alone)
I don't need a crystal ball to make me
Realize that if I stay you'll break me
Every sign is saying I should be gone
I should be gone

Thought I had a cloud over my head
It had to be my fault that it kept raining down
Until now, I figured out
That if I had the nerve to say goodbye
I could look for clearer skies up over head
Weather says sun instead

I don't need a crystal ball to show me
Baby, it is plain that you don't know me
When it comes to you I'm better off alone (Better off alone)
I don't need a crystal ball to make me
Realize that if I stay you'll break me
Every sign is saying I should be gone
I should be gone

I can feel (Even though I'm numb)
The change to come will hurt someone
I can see (I can feel)
This time it isn't me
I might be the lucky one

I don't need a crystal ball to show me
Baby, it is plain that you don't know me
When it comes to you I'm better off alone (Better off alone)
I don't need a crystal ball to make me
Realize that if I stay you'll break me
Every sign is saying I should be gone
I should be gone

2011 :at:, was a TV-Qualifier at least

2014 None
2015 :am: was saved by the Televoters
2016 :pl: was saved by the Televoters

Since the riggory of the running order introduced in 2013, the quota is even worse. 1/3

But Uku should have all the goods to qualify under normal circumstances. Maybe San Marino, Czechia and Greece are too messy and let him shine.

But 11/24=46% rate is still rather bad. There had been 425 semifinal entries in those 12 years competing for 240 spots, so the expected average success potential is 240/425=56.5%.
Yeah but in most of these cases the slot was given to songs that were completely chanceless to begin with (like Iceland 2018 or Montenegro 2019). When given to "borderline qualifiers" it's a different scenario

A-lister's review:

This literary sounds like a revamped version of the 2020 entry, the production is a bit more up-to-date while the composition changed a bit, however the 2020 chorus was a bit more memorable than this year so all-in-all it's pretty much the same impression... and it's not a good one! This just screams generic and pointless to me, at least the guy looks good but the song lands in my bottom 10.

This. All NQ but one are from 2013 on and later when the running order was not random... because the „death slot“ was given to weak songs anyway. That‘s exactly why I don’t believe in such thing as better or worse positions.

Yes, I get the last songs are the most memorable but my experience with friends watching is that everyone found a favourite real quickly and didn’t pay much attention to songs that came after it.

THE GOOD:
  • The beats are what make the song for me.
  • Good vocals throughout.
THE BAD:
  • Not a lot of high notes.
  • It's not that memorable.
THE VERDICT:

This is a good effort from Estonia. For me, it harkens back to the late-80s/early-90s era of crooners like Michael Bolton and Richard Marx, to name two. While the song is good, it does have its lowlights, like those listed. As far as the Final is concerned, it has a chance, because it's a different sound for Estonia. 7 points

Uku Suviste - The Lucky One - Estonia

I am happy he won Eesti Laul, he deserved it. And he brought a great song. Love it so much, but I have got different favourites this year. Anyway, I wish he does well!

Is it just me who hears that Uku performed 'The Lucky One' in a lower key at Eesti Laul? I mean the beginning at least definitely sounds lower and I dig it more this way. Or are my ears deceiving me?

I am not gonna pretend I have a perfect pitch though, lol. I know well I do not.

I don’t know about lower key, but his performance was quite underwhelming, the backing track was hiding his voice, there were many “hiccups” going on, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he went lower on purpose

Okay I just watched the Spain pre-party and I'm glad Uku again didn't just go to perform or give middling performance, like maybe some, but really gave his best, clearly prepared and thought about how to perform to give positive emotions for the viewers and fans, made a new arrengement etc. I noticed that already last year with his ESC at home performances, covering Loreen and inviting Rybak to play part. He really is a maximalist, takes it seriously and can be counted on.
Can be proud :)

I don't like the original version, but really like this one ... seems that such acoustic versions have a completely other impact on me. Good vocals indeed!

Those hiccups were mostly towards the ending (especially few short notes in the bridge), but nothing major really. I enjoyed the performance at Eesti Laul.

His voice is pretty good, I love his timbre.

I will be able to send some votes for him, as Estonia is in the same semifinal as Poland.

I agree about his timbre, it’s probably one of the best, together with UK this year, imo.
My opinion, judging also from last year, is that he has lots of potential, but lacks a bit in technique, thus making the performances inconsistent. His first performance in Eesti Laul also has quite a few problems. But of course, this is mainly a matter of training. I really hope this year we will get to hear real voices at least, and not this terrible mix of loud prerecorded backing vocals+real vocal, that we saw for example in Melodifestivalen.
