you didn't see simple video then :D

No, I didn´t. But what I mean is that the lyrics of the song are full of abstract metaphors, so I imagined the video could be more specific, possibly with Marta and Václav playing some characters in certain situations. But I am not complaining, I like it. It´s simple, but classy.

And what is a nice result if not qualifying?
Finishing 11th among 17 ?

I think 11th-13th place will not be that bad.
If they end in last place it's sure a bad thing. :D

I'm sure CT wont agree that 11th place is wonderful. I'd imagine them throwing a fit and withdrawing again if they fail to qualify.

I don't know what's bigger...her tits or his muscles?

With a ballad it´s OK, but whenever Marta sings something wilder, jumping on the stage up and down, everyone is thrilled if she will manage to keep everything inside. Especially this performance was quite hazardous:

Don't really like the song but I would be totally fine with them qualifying (although it's unlikely)

Let´s be realistic, but not pessimistic. I believe we all know that victory is not our goal at this point (especially with so many likable songs in the competition). Our goal is to get Marta and Václav qualify for the Big Evening to sing their bloody hearts out in there, no matter what happens after that. I wouldn´t say it´s impossible.

Sadly, ČT will be broadcasting both semi-finals on their obscure channel ČT Art (which means it will be watched only by hardcore fans - all five of us), but the Final will be on their mainstream channel ČT1. So, most people will probably watch the Final (if anything at all), and the difference in their opinion between "oh, that silly show full or eccentric foreigners again" and "OMG, Marta and Václav are among them! We are so proud!" could be crucial for ČT´s change of attitude and for our future in the ESC. ;)

I don't even catch ČT Art at home I think, I will have to watch the first semi online

They should broadcast the Czech SF on CT1 too, don't understand why they don't.

The average ratings for ČT Art are what? Something around 2%? The ratings will be terrible and it won't do any good for the image of Eurovision here. Not to mention ČT isn't promoting ESC at all right now, most people have no idea we are back in the contest.

Anyway, here's an interview with Václav.

http://www.novinky.cz/kultura/36416...osongu-pokud-to-predem-vzdame-prohrajeme.html

Not going to translate everything, he describes the process of writing the song there and reveals that they have already decided on the staging in May. Sadly, it looks like they don't prepare anything special. He said there will be only him and Marta on stage, without vocalists or dancers. They want to keep it simple, humble, "pure", as in the videoclip, he said.

Well, maybe - if we will be able to make ČT believe that ESC is interesting enough for their viewers - they still could decide to broadcast SFs on ČT1. At first, I thought the reason for this was the Ice Hockey World Cup, hosted in Prague and Ostrava at the same time (and - as I suppose - broadcasted by ČT as well?), but according to Wikipedia, the silly hockey thing actually ends two days before the first Eurovision SF, so... Now it looks more like a confirmation of Mlyn´s conspiracy theory about evil ČT, boycotting everything and laughing diabolically over our misery.

And for the interview - good, even if Novinky.cz are not generally taken that seriously, it still is one of the most popular news sites. I like Václav´s attitude ("If we give up in advance, we will lose") as well as his enthusiasm for ESC (he says he´d love to stay in Vienna even in case of failure to witness the Final as a normal audience member), but I agree with you that in order to stand out, the song needs more sophisticated staging conception than "two people standing there, singing".

CT needs to try hard and promote the contest in several consecutive years. Even if Marta and Vaclav manage to qualify (which I believe will happen), it still won't mean anything as it seems noone will be aware of that. I can't figure out how come Czech Republic is such a black hole for Eurovision. Even Slovakia which is considered to be in the same bandwagon, had way better atitude to the contest - they had both successful national finals and decent ratings. Let's not talk about the other currently inactive broadcasters - all managed to do something positive for Eurovision in terms of songs, ratings, general popularity. That's why I'm amazed by the fact that there is even a small bunch of Eurovision die-hard fans in Czech Republic. Full respect!
