Nations or members in cyan have entered NSC at least once before.

Waiting list (WL) rules:

 • Voting in each final of NSC as part of the waiting list jury is compulsory.
 • Any waiting list nations who fail to vote will be moved 2 places down on the list.
 • Nations who fail to vote 2 finals in a row will be removed from the list.
 • Under certain circumstances waiting list nations can take a break from voting in the finals if a solid reason is given. During that period of time the position of the nation on the waiting list remains frozen and it can move neither up nor down.
 • Nations with 'NSC XXX' beside them will debut/return in the next contest.
 • Nations with 'NSC XXX?' beside them can send a reserve entry to the next contest.

First of all, welcome to NSC! If you have any questions regarding the contest, feel free to post them in this thread or ask one of the mods: @Stargazer, @berlyda or @Veronika.

In order to get familiar with the contest, please take a look at the RULES!

If you want to apply for a place in NSC (or if you want to return), simply send a PM to Stargazer - you'll be added to the waiting list (see above).

Please note that you are probably going to be waiting for a long time as there is a strong demand for spots on the roster. In the meantime, you may enter the Waiting List contest, vote in the semi-finals of NSC and take part in the various spin-off contests if you wish to. Don't forget that voting in the finals is compulsory.

And most importantly: Have fun!

Wondered where you had been since you didn't register for WLSC 180 either although your vacation would probably have counted you out anyway xlove

I wish the joke with a certain nation failing to vote in the final, sitting out next edition, the edition after not being in the final and failing to vote again and the story goes on, will be finally over. There are people in WL who want to join NSC and deserve its spot more. It was like this 5 years ago when I was in WL back then, and I find it more annoying now to know that this situation is going on year after year. That's why evil spots are needed IMO. Or people to have the dignity to withdraw.

Totally agree with CypriotGirl above. We no longer have 60 nation editions of NSC, and there are rarely more than a couple of nations taking breaks at a time, so let's kill the dead weight and get those that are present and active in EVERY edition on the main roster. It's a nonsense and it needs a hard line approach to fix it.

Yeah...at this rate, I really have no clue when I'm ever going to finally get the chance to join the official roster of nations.

Yes this is something that annoyed me to no end, I just got lucky one of these such players either finally gave up or lost track of the date and was thrown out. It's super frustrating to be ready to join and having to send reserve entries, only not to get in. FSC is so overly strict and NSC is almost entirely the reverse, I don't think people even face punishment for failing to vote in semis, at least from what I saw. It's a grossly unfair system, and more so when there is queue of people waiting to join who will take it fully serious. It's also part of my problem with extensions to deadlines that accommodate those players who just don't even bother to meet deadlines and still manage to get their points counted on time. If the contest had a functioning mod team then those dots could be implemented effectively.

NSC isn't like WV or FSC, though in terms of how the mods work. NSC is very much community owned and run, and it's not for the mods to just implement rules that there's no majority consensus about. Granted, this is also why many ideas that have been put forth, discussed and voted for in polls haven't really gone anywhere, because an overwhelmingly majority consensus couldn't be established (either because not enough people voted in the poll or because the options weren't defined properly enough, or whatever). There was some sort of effort to revive the Evil Dots discussion, but Juki was in charge of that so I'm not sure how much time she will have to see it through since she's leaving. Seeing as I'm currently the only mod (because the old team left and I was more or less thrust into it) and have been the sole mod for a year and a half with no team to bounce off of and discuss things with, everything's been in a bit of a limbo.

Having said that, of course I understand how frustrating it is to see members with seemingly no time or interest in the contest cling on to their roster spot doing the absolute bare minimum to scrape by.

I get that, but things can be community lead and with a mod team - there to push things forward and stop things coming to a grinding halt and nothing from changing. Obviously as it is, it doesn't work. Because nothing is being done and what is being done is at the good will of people like you. A mod team puts an idea forward, listens to feedback and creates a poll accordingly, and follows the result. With the evil dots thing, there seemed to have been significant support for it anyway. NSC really does need a mod team, for that fact pure and simple. Also because it's not fair at all to leave you to 'manage' an entire contest alone. Eventually that good will from people like you or Veronika who is making the wiki stuff every edition will run out. It would be a good idea to push the evil dots idea through and get discussions going and a poll like we were promised instead of just letting it die over and over. I think those in the WL who have voted on time each final without even taking part themselves show a greater level of commitment compared to some of the full roster members. xshrug Also, my brief comparison to FSC was because there the mod team don't even consult and have insanely strict rules on eligibility etc, the literal total opposite of NSC.

My frustration is for a certain nation, and 5 years ago it was the exact same nation that was doing this. It's doing this edition after edition for 5 or more years and there's no punishment. More or less, almost all nations that are in the main roster are active and deserve their spot there. I understand that NSC is a community-working contest and in most aspects it's working very well for so many years, but situations like this make it clear that not all community members want the best for the community.

All I know I had been WL for soo many years  and I think im close of getting on the main roster

xcookie you were with us in the WL and enjoying WLSC with us (over six years ago).xrofl2 I just hope that (if you don't get lazy in the meanwhile :|) you don't almost immediately leave after you reach the roster after you get there, after your whole saga, which happened to other nations..

To what the contest concerns, being the decisions taken as a community or not, things should be tougher. The only time our nation didn't take part was because a usual late voter, which usually gets the friendly attitude of his/her votes being accepted later, didn't even consider of giving those nations a second chance. Being kind to others when others are kind to us, and when we do exactly the same mistakes, would be something some people should learn. So, yeah, this doesn't work at all, I kept the whole school year running to have my votes ready before the ddl because you never exacly know the host's mood of accepting late votes (or Nicholas or both of us), and then seeing more time and more is given, is really unfair to the people who vote on time. Fortunately there were exceptions where extra-time was given to us, after we asked, before the respective ddls.

First, let's not mention any names, okay? That would be impolite. VedatiNet they're talking about you.

As for the mods and running of NSC. The contest is in a state of, what I'd call it, organized anarchy. Everyone knows the rules, everyone follows them, the hosts know what to do (most of the time), everybody goes along and the game continues smoothly. It just works and has been working for a few years with very little change, to the point we kinda didn't even notice we've had no mod team for a while. One one hand, it proves NSC is in a solid state, as it works by itself, on the other some minor issues get neglected, like the infamous evil dots.

Yeah, technically NSC is community-run, period. But you can have all the consensus in the world, nothing will happen unless someone actually goes to the "NSC Rules" post and edits it with the changes the community agreed upon. And right now it seems there's nobody who'd feel legitimized and obliged to do so.

I haven't really gone in depth of the stats here, but Vedatistan's voting since NSC 127 (in the 15 finals I've been in since then) has been like this: 4 not taking part, 6 failed to vote, and 5 times voted. And I figure that's just the tip of the iceberg, as I have a low qualifying rate... It sucks, I often like his entries, but I wish he'd take the contest more seriously...

As for changes in this contest, I've pretty much given up. The opinions on most topics seem to be spread out roughly 50-50, which means there will very rarely be a majority of votes on any possible change. When the WL was a lot bigger than it is now, I was pretty much open to any change to the contest that would make it easier for WL nations to join. I only waited for a couple of months when I joined, and I think it's unfair that anyone should have to wait for more than 6 months. I wouldn't have joined the NSC if I had to wait that long, and to this day, I've never failed to vote. I've been lucky with the hosts accepting late votes a couple of times tho, I'll admit that. But these possible changes never got enough support, and nothing happened. And I figure not a lot WILL happen either...
