Re: CANADA - CanadaSong 73: Battle of the Decades NF (DDL: 12/30 @ 21 CET)

Deadline has passed, and we have a winner! A massive thank you who voted in this NF, I truly appreciate your loyalty.

The final scores are as follows, only 10 points separated 1st from 3rd:

1st place: 60 points
2nd place: 54 points
3rd place: 50 points
4th place: 40 points
5th place: 36 points

As it was very close between the top 2, CBMC has decided that the runner-up will be chosen internally to be Canada's entry for WV74.

Erm... in the end, did you receive my votes or not? :? A confirmation, even if only here in the thread would have been nice. :|

I did receive them, your flag is on the voted list. It's just that I've had no time lately to send out confirmation replies

Matt Mays - Take It On Faith

Video

Lyrics

Well I don't you but I feel you
Do you feel it too
Comin' at you through the tall grass
My lies comfort you

Then I'm frozen in stereo it f***s me up
Sad injury the first degree
Set yourself free

Take it on faith
My love baby just one time
Picture life from my eyes

Oh take it on faith
My love

All my leaves they fall for you
Do you fall in too?
Cause I'm stickin with the northern sun

I don't you know but I feel you
Do you feel it too
Sad injury the first degree of the
Set yourself free

Take it on faith, my love
Baby just one time
Picture life from my eyes

Yeah take it on faith
My love

I'd never lose ya
Have a little faith
Gimme night
You never ever, die
Kill my mind
So have a little faith
Show a little love
Give a little heart

Oh take it on faith
My love
Baby just one time
Picture life from my eyes

Just one time
Picture life from eyes

Yeah take it on faith
My love
Baby just one time
Picture life from my eyes
Yeah
Take it on faith
My love

Take it on faith
My love

Take it on faith
My love

Take it on faith
My love

It's a good and unusual entry. Might get my support, depending on who's on the run in the first semi.

It's a shame that "Which way you goin' Billy?" didn't win though... xcry1 such a great and beautiful song. xheart

I supported Crash Test Dummies... shame they didn't win it :(

The winner song is pretty nice and cool but somehow the chorus is a little underwhelming.

Nevertheless, I wish you the best of luck!

My Loreena McKennitt obsessed friend today showed me this video here. It's the 18th century Russian choir piece of music that Loreena samples at the start and end of your spellbinding, almost winner of WorldVision, "Dante's Prayer". Thought you'd be interested to hear it.

Re: CANADA - WV74

16th place in the final, but I won the semi. Not too bad for a piece of East Coast indie-rock!

As mentioned many times before, the runner-up of CanadaSong 73 will be my entry for WV74, so those who supported it in the national final will be quite satisfied with the choice.

I can reveal that third place in the NF went to The Poppy Family, a late surge of points pushed it to 50 points. This past NF was fun to put together and I hope you enjoyed hearing Canadian music from the various decades.

Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Video

Lyrics

Once there was this kid who
Got into an accident and couldn't come to school
But when he finally came back
His hair had turned from black into bright white
He said that it was from when
The car had smashed so hard

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Once there was this girl who
Wouldn't go and change with the girls in the change room
But when they finally made her
They saw birthmarks all over her body
She couldn't quite explain it
They'd always just been there

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

But both girl and boy were glad
'Cause one kid had it worse than that

'Cause then there was this boy whose
Parents made him come directly home right after school
And when they went to their church
They shook and lurched all over the church floor
He couldn't quite explain it
They'd always just gone there

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Re: CANADA - WV74 SF2 #08: Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

What a surprise to find out I qualified for the final! So as a special treat for my supporters, here's Weird Al's parody entitled Headline News

The parody covers three big tabloid news stories of 1993 and 1994: the Singapore caning of an American delinquent, the attack on Nancy Kerrigan instigated by Tonya Harding and carried out by her then-boyfriend, and Lorena Bobbitt's famous slicing of her husband's... well, you know. The video features cameos by Dr. Demento, Judy Tenuta and People's Court reporter Doug Llewelyn. Brad Roberts, the Dummies' frontman, loved the parody.

Re: CANADA - WV75: Will you dance with me on this special occasion?

As mentioned, I didn't expect a good result with this entry, but I took a chance and at least made the final. Thank you to all who supported the top 2 of CanadaSong 73 over these last 2 editions

So on to WV75 where it's a double special occasion. I joined WV in June of 2013 taking on the challenge with Switzerland and later switching to Canada. So this will be my 60th total edition as part of the WV community, and 30th as juror of my homeland! There is much to celebrate, and I hope to share some of my special memories with you.

I'd also like to hear some of your memories too. What songs (both Swiss and Canadian) made you smile, made you cry, and you wish could have done better?

And now a clue to my special 30th entry: it's an Oscar nominee! ;)

There are two songs in particular that stayed in my mind and which I still listen to very often:

:ch: Adrian von Ziegler - Eternal Ice | a unique masterpiece that xlove xlove xlove it was so underrated
:ca: Rykka - Movies | super catchy, was my favourite by far that edition

Congratulations on your anniversary! xcheer

Well, right now my memory is fragile but I could recall enjoying your winning :ch: song by Anna Rossinelli, Shine in the light and for :ca: the Pan American Games anthem by Serena Ryder which I even suggested it, but I believe you had it in mind already back then... and I think "Alegria" deserved much more too.

Re: CANADA - WV75: Will you dance with me on this special occasion?

A little self-survey...

Swiss song I'm most proud of:
Aside from my winning entry, I would have to say "Sei Amore" from WV19. It was the REJU qualifier despite being 14th in regular, but it got me my very first top 10 finish - 9th place. It told me that I was on the right track

Canadian song I'm most proud of:
"Together We Are One" (WV54). It might not have done as well as I hoped (12th place in the final), but I'm proud of it just because of what it meant to me. And I won my semifinal with it, so that was a victory in itself!

I don't have any regrets sending...
"Oh Yeah" by Yello (WV20). I promised Adel that I'd send Yello at least once, and of course that particular song has a place in pop culture. I knew I was destined for a bad result in the final, but hey - I kept my promise

I wish this could have done better...
Both of my recent last-place in the semi Canadian entries, "Sleepy Maggie" and "Ahead By a Century". With the former, I thought I would try something different from my usual offerings, and the latter because recently it had become a special song to many Canadians. Yes I was devastated by the result for both songs, but it was good to know that people did like them

I wish...
Loreena really could have won WV60 with "Dante's Prayer"

Biggest thrill:
Getting back to the final in WV71 after a 5-edition slump, then getting 6th place in the final

So why did I take Switzerland when I joined WV?
Aside from the fact that I loved the Swiss ESC entry in 2013, I took the country seeking a challenge. Of course it's easy to take a popular country like Sweden, the United Kingdom or the United States, but seeking Swiss songs from many different genres was a fun thing to do

And why Canada?
Because this is my home country. My aim was to show you the music of Canada that I know and love outside of all the stuff being played on mainstream radio these days. I hope to sometime soon take that silver I got in WV60 and upgrade it to gold before I move on

Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone - City of Stars

Video

Lyrics

City of stars, are you shining just for me?
City of stars, there's so much that I can't see
Who knows
I felt it from the first embrace
I shared with you...
That now Our dreams
They've finally come true

City of stars, Just one thing everybody wants
There in the bars, and through the smokescreen of the crowded restaurants
It's love,
Yes, all we're looking for is love
From someone else...
- A rush
- A glance
- A touch
- A dance
To look in somebody's eyes
To light up the skies
To open the world and send me reeling
A voice that says
I'll be here, and you'll be alright
I don't care if I know
Just where I will go
'Cause all that I need, this crazy feeling, Ra-ta-tat of my heart
I think I wanted to stay

City of stars, are you shining just for me?
City of stars
You never shined so brightly
