Re: CANADA - WV66 SF3 #07: Lisa Lougheed - Run With Us

WORLDVISION 66 DUBLIN :ca::ie:

Lisa Lougheed - Run With Us

Burlington-born Lisa is best known as the voice of Lisa Raccoon in the long-running Canadian animated series The Raccoons, in which she also performs the second version of its timeless theme song which was released in 1988 as part of the album Evergreen Nights - a compilation of songs from the series

To this day, the series is still much loved in Canada and has been shown in many other countries around the world

The clips in the video are from the 1985 feature The Raccoons and the Lost Star

Lyrics

When darkness falls
Leaving shadows in the night
Don't be afraid
Wipe that fear from your eyes
If a desperate love
Keeps on driving you wrong
Don't be afraid
You're not alone

You can run with us
We've got everything we need
Run with us
We are free
(C-c-c-)Come with us
I see passion in your eyes
Run with us

When the cold wind blows
Turn your collar to the cold
Don't be ashamed
If you need someone to hold
If you're sinking in quicksand
And it's dragging you down
And you feel you're going under
We'll be around

You can run with us
We've got everything we need
Run with us
We are free
(C-c-c-)Come with us
I see passion in your eyes
Run with us

When you're behind closed doors
All alone by yourself
And you're longing inside
To be somebody else
You pick up the telephone
And there's no one on the line
Don't be afraid
Cause there's still time

You can run with us
We've got everything we need
Run with us
We are free
(Ah-ah-ah-ah)Come with us
I see passion in your eyes
Run with us

Oh.. run with us
We've got everything we need
Run with us
We are free
(C-c-c-)Come with us
I see passion in your eyes
Run with us

Oh.. run with us

Re: CANADA - WV66 SF3 #07: Lisa Lougheed - Run With Us

I'm always surprised by my opinion about some songs.

When it comes to the gap between today's songs and older ones (80's or 90's...), I'd say that older the song is, and better than the modern songs he might be considered.
I wouldn't say that your song is a masterpiece, but it deserves much more than a criticism like: 'Uh, that's quite old. Why does it sound so shitty? Video quality is awful, blurry and this singer dances and moves like a tipsey duck'.

It might be a risky choice, you may not sail through the semi-final, but you could say to everyone that you had the guts to send a song, which is way different than the others.

Congratulations, to make us discover something else, thus I'll 'just' praise you for this time, and pray for you not to fail to qualify... xpray

Re: CANADA - WV67: Marie-Mai

So close! But thank you again to everyone who supported this great song, it's been a pleasure to share a piece of my childhood with you as The Raccoons was one of my favorite cartoons growing up.

I'm pleased to announce that CBMC has found its artist for WV67, with the song being selected after WV66 ends. They have chosen Quebec artist Marie-Mai!

Re: CANADA - WV67: Marie-Mai

YASSSSSSSS!!!!

Marie-Mai is a well-known singer in Quebec, and in France as well.
This is an amazing singer, then you can guess that I'm fiercely waiting for her song in WV, despite being fond of all of her songs.
I'm certain and quite confident that your forthcoming results and qualification in WV67 will be as successful as I'm reckoning for now. xcheer

Be sure that I'll back :ca: and its song for WV67, whichever it is.

PS: "Comme Avant" may be the song, which you've chosen for WV67 .
Though I can't influence and manipulate your state of mind about your future entry, you can believe in yourself for this time.

Good luck, my friend. xcheer

Re: CANADA - WV67 SF1 #21: Marie-Mai - Emmène-moi

WORLDVISION 67 EDINBURGH :ca::sc:

Marie-Mai - Emmène-moi

Quebec firecracker Marie-Mai came to fame when she finished third in the first season of the French-Canadian version of Star Academy. Since then, she has become one of the brightest stars on the French music scene in the country

Her song "Emmène-moi" is the lead track of her 2007 studio album Dangereuse Attraction and was performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver

Lyrics

Je veux te croire si tu me crois

Re: CANADA - WV68

So close, missed qualification by 2 points! I really would have wanted to finish my unfinished business, but it will have to wait for another day. Thank you to everyone for supporting Marie

Don't know what I'm going to send next, but I'll figure it out eventually

Re: CANADA - WV68

How's it going, eh?

CBMC has announced its plans for WV68, WV69 and WV70, so here they are!

WV68: I've taken you all across the country, but the one thing we're missing is a little taste of Atlantic Canada! So for WV68, it will be some East Coast folk-pop (we intended to send it in WV54, but replaced it with Serena Ryder)
WV69: Canada's 24th entry will be from Kingston alt-rock/pop band The Tragically Hip, in honor of their final concert held August 20 and to celebrate the legacy of frontman Gord Downie, who has terminal brain cancer
WV70: As per tradition, a returning artist will take part for entry #25

Oh I won't be sad
When the fiddler, the fiddler comes tonight

In the black mill, in the black mill
The nest of the grouse
Is in the black mill since the summer time
The nest of the grouse
In the black mill, in the black mill
The nest of the grouse
Is in the black mill since the summer time

The black mill is moving around
The black mill is moving around
The black mill is moving around
And we expect to go dancing
The black mill is moving around
The black mill is moving around
The black mill is moving around
And we expect to go dancing

Re: CANADA - WV69: The Tragically Hip

Well, dead last in the semi was not the result I was hoping for - SF3 overall was just too strong and too full of mainstream offerings, I think. What support you guys have given me, I do appreciate it.

As promised, The Tragically Hip will be representing Canada next edition, and with my favorite song from them. Hopefully this will snap our downward slump

It was not the result this beautiful song deserved Steph :( I'm shocked it bombed so badly given how similar songs can do so well. Best of luck for next edition xlove

Re: CANADA - WV69: The Tragically Hip

Last place with a Scottish-Gaelic song with folk elements?

That's a reason to blow up the houses of all SF3 members to be honest xfacepalm

Good luck for next edition.. even though reading the word "Hip" makes me cringe a little bit

Re: CANADA - WV69 SF1 #01: The Tragically Hip - Ahead By a Century

WORLDVISION 69 CARTAGENA :ca::co:

The Tragically Hip - Ahead By a Century

This song from the band's 1996 album Trouble at the Henhouse is their most successful in Canada and was certified platinum in 2016. It also received a Juno nomination in 1997 for Best Single.

It will fondly be remembered by Canadians as the final song performed by the group during their farewell show in Kingston, which was viewed by over 12 million people across the country and millions more worldwide via online stream. CBC also used the song as part of their highlight montage to close their coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Video

Lyrics

First thing we'd climb a tree and maybe then we'd talk
Or sit silently and listen to our thoughts
With illusions of someday casting a golden light
No dress rehearsal, this is our life

And that's where the hornet stung me
And I had a feverish dream
With revenge and doubt
Tonight we smoke them out

You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century

Stare in the morning shroud and then the day began
I tilted your cloud, you tilted my hand
Rain falls in real time and rain fell through the night
No dress rehearsal, this is our life

But that's when the hornet stung me
And I had a serious dream
With revenge and doubt
Tonight we smoke them out

You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century

You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century

And disappointing you is getting me down

A really sweet song, and evidently one that touches your heart and is a brilliant representative of your country. What more is there to ask for? Best of luck Duchess; you really deserve to do well again, and this deserves to be the song that pushes you back into the final xlove

Re: CANADA - WV70

I honestly don't know what to say: a song that meant so much to my country over the past month failed, and to come last for the second straight edition is absolutely heartbreaking. As Lupus said to me: I don't know what I need to qualify these days, but I'm not going to change who I am or the music of my country that I believe in

I honestly don't know what's next for me with Canada after WV70: either switch juries (however I don't know what is the right fit for me), or take a break for a while. But I do plan to send a returning artist for my 25th go and hope for a better result

Who would you like to see come back and give Canada a fighting chance again (not Celine or Loreena, as I've sent them twice already)?
