I wake up and I think I could use another drink
I'm reaching for a smoke to forget about last night, last night
I get up 'cause I need a shot of instant remedy
I put a record on, it makes me think about last night, last night

It all ended in the weirdest chip
He started actin' way too hip
That's why I ignored you for a long, long time
But then you had the best opening line
You're in the wrong place

You're lying next to me, I don't know where to hide
I see his smiley face that makes me wanna cry
What was I thinking? 'Cause all we did was fight
Don't you ever dare to wear my Johnny Cash t-shirt

You're in the wrong place, you're in the wrong place

You wake up and you think you won't need another drink
You don't want me to smoke, though I didn't stop last night, last night
You get up 'cause you need an organic cup of tea
You put a record on, it makes you think about last night, last night

You confuse me with your blurry eyes
Thought you were a different kind of guy
That's why I took you to my messy place
But it felt as if we were in a different space
You're in the wrong place

You're lying next to me, I don't know where to hide
I see his smiley face that makes me wanna cry
What was I thinking? 'Cause all we did was fight
Don't you ever dare to wear my Johnny Cash t-shirt

You're in the wrong place, you're in the wrong place
You're in the wrong place, you're in the wrong place
You're in the wrong place, you're in the wrong place
Don't you ever dare to wear my Johnny Cash t-shirt

I was a HUGE fan of „Release me“ last year (it was high up in my top 10) and also of „A matter of time“, both songs are similar to what I am listening a lot usually outside Eurovision.

Their new song „The wrong place“ is gorgeous too, however not as catchy as „Release me“ and hard to grasp at the first listening. So while I love it I‘m pretty sure this won’t qualify, for various reasons. But I‘m sure this will be on my playlist after Eurovision (I‘m a fan of Hooverphonic anyway).

This seems to be a usual Hooverphonic sound, and I like it. It has a good percussion choice and I've never thought I like the guitars used to fill the sound (if you closely hear it there are plucks on the left ear and a reverbed strum on the right ear). There are enough kicks and punches and dynamism to make it a pleasant listening experience. It sure is more impactful than Release Me.

There's some downsides, though: Like Boris has said the chorus is not as strong as the marvelous verses and prechorus. and I even feel it's like separate parts of two songs. Other problems with it is that it feels incomplete, as I feel it should have a bridge and a third chorus.

Might it work with the juries? There's a big chance. Might it work with the televoters? Uh... Maybe not. With the roster we have on Semifinal 1 this could easily sunk as it is not as catchy as Release Me. If it gets the 10-12 slot it might be dead on arrival, and I hope not.

I'm gonna give it a generous :7: . A solid entry, but not a standout.

"Release Me" started out near the very top of my 2020 list but couldn't stay there as the appeal of its coldness wore off.

I bring that up only to put in context that I suppose the unfortunate journey I took with "Release Me" could theoretically happen again, but Hooverphonic's entry has, once again, made a wonderful first impression. The vocalist just has an absolute treat of a voice. The song's slice-of-life imagery and back-to-basics orchestrations are giving me Carole King meets Nicole Atkins.

Sweet Jesus, you did not just say Nicole Atkins. My expectations are now through the roof quite naturally being the Ms Atkins mega fan that I am. I need to listen. Let's see if Ms Hoover are just as hot.

I've prepped this for you in case you end up not liking it.

Not to be confused, I miss Luka, and I definitely despise Geike. She is a gold digger but for music industry.

But the song is good. One of my favorites this year after being my personal winner last year.

I'm sorry Belgium. I absolutely loved your entry last year! It stayed firmly in my top 10. I loved the cold, laidback feeling of Release Me - with those heavenly lazy vocals!
I've just listenede to the Wrong Place a couple of times. I still like the overall soundpicture. But the chorus is quite weak. And last year the main attraction for me was the vocals.... this year not...
All in all a decent entry. But decent is not enough...so a tad disappointed here.

I loved their entry last year. This is also good, but the chorus lets it down for me. I'll give it another chance.

On first listen, it's very Brit Indie pop. It's a pretty decent track, but feels more like an album track than a single if you know what I mean. Just based on first listen, it seems like an improvement from last year but I feel for "Release Me" it grows in you with more listens. So I shall see if "The Wrong Place" has the same growing power. Giving this another big fat 5.

Quite different from last year, more catchy, I won't get tired of it after a few listen. And at least this time it doesn't lead to anywhere.
I love the chorus, it's very melodic, but I have to grasp the verse. Maybe because she has quite a raspy voice, I would have appreciated a lower tone. The end is too abrupt too, I thought for a second I lost my connection.
But all in all, I already put it on repeat a few times, it really gets in your head. For now it's a :8:, good job Belgium.

As many stated here already, I also like the verses very much, but then the chorus is a big drop. But overall, I really like this entry. But I had the same experience as @lavieenrose actually. Last year I really loved their entry, but faded a lot after a time. I hope it doesn't happen again.

ANDDDDDDD THE BIG MOMENT HAS ARRIVED!!

My all time favorite band came to serve some QUALITY!

This is a tribute to the 00's era of Hooverphonic! Could see "The Wrong Place" in albums like The Mgnificent Tree etc etc and it definitely has much much more Hooverphonic vibes than last year.

And ofc, it's my current winner! I really thought that France would have been my winner till the end of the season but wow i was wrong. This was love to first listening. I'm amazed by how great this song is!

Geike sounds like she never left Hooverphonic! It was like she waited these past 14(?) years to come back. And she gave everything.

Still humming this and just heard of it once. That's smth rare.

Best of luck to them!
