It's really great and will go high. I however have to think about Nemo when I listen to it and it impresses me a little bit less to be honest...

It was the only one internal choice I was waiting for and... I'm not disappointed. More, I value it much higher than last year's winner. Great attempt from Austria. Good luck! I will consider it to be my new #1 along with Lithuania.

But who else would win instead? 🥲
"Bad Bad Dancebreak"? TotallynotaColdplaysongerlöw? "We have Papaoutai at home"?

So, here's a serious contender. Serious in every way. Maybe a bit too serious. Remember "La forza" ? It only ended up 8th, maybe because it was a bit too professional, and it didn't engage people in the right way, it didn't feel like the artist needed to win Eurovision.

Eurovision is supposed to be mainly a contest for amateurs, and artists who aren't internationally known. JJ isn't well known, but obviously one of the world's best male sopranos - it might feel to viewers that he doesn't need their votes, that the contest is pretty much irrelevant to him anyway, unlike say, Nemo who was hardly known at all before his participation.

So what to say about the song? It's really quite simple, though a bit unusual for ESC, there's actually not so much to it melodically, and the strength and novelty comes mostly from the vocal performance, and the arrangement.

Obviously it's somewhat similar to Nemo, which speaks against it as two similar songs has not won back-to-back since 2005, but it's mostly because of the performer - in mood and concept it more resembles entries like "Not the Same" and "Beautiful Mess", or even "Arcade" a bit.

The seriousness can help it stand out among all the joke entries this year. Some are surely gonna go "Now there's a REAL artist, who can really sing and takes it SERIOUSLY!", but it can't just rely on that.

Pretty confident he can sing this live, given he's such a professional performer already. The staging is gonna be interesting to see. I imagine it being dark and artsy, a bit Sheldon Riley or even Cezar-esque, with him in some kind of unusual outfit and a ominous but fairly static surrounding, but it seems the uptempo part is meant for something more to happen on stage, and i'm really curious what they have planned.

Overall, i'd say i am a fan of this entry, but i'm not sure if i will support it as a winner, as i'd just like to see the trophy go to a type of artist who needs it more, but we'll see how i feel about that in a while. For now, it's in my top 5 at least, but my fave is probably still Ukraine...

If they do Sheldon Riley type staging they will completely lose any connection with the viewer. Although in fairness SR's song was much weaker than JJ's.

Wow I'm speechless!! It's true it follows Nemo's path but hey this is a masterpiece. Had it been in German, it would've been perfect. :12: points.

Ok, he is strong. He has the vocals, but I find his song wayy more "divisive" and unaccessible than what I thought Nemo would have been.
Juries will go for the good vocalists combined with a great staging, so Austria has the task to create a fantastic staging in order to win.

This song was made in heaven and a very current angel is singing it, so obviously it is not easy to grasp by ordinary, down to earth individuals.
If the live performance is on the same level, hopefully the juries will recognize its genius and will make it the rightful winner despite the public, just like they did last year.

He will have the paper boat.
Will there be a rain machine?
And also a wind machine?

Dear Lord JJ will have to suffer on stage…

At least we will get a huge drama on stage.
I am most curious what will happen in the last part. there is a few seconds when he is not singing (I suppose the repeated "wasted love" will be pre recorded or from live backing vocals), enough time to pull him up above the stage like in the video. I dont think there will be a wild dance choreo because still its a sad song even with the beat.

We are very close to 1st place in the combined odds now! Who would have thought that at the beginning of the season.

Is it true that the director for Ireland's Bambie Thug's staging last year will be the director for Austria this year?

Because if that''s true, then I think we're looking at Sweden vs Austria this year at Eurovision.

Yes, I think it was revealed by Sergio Jaeen himself. He will do the stagings for Cyprus, Finland and Austria.
