Today it was :au: turn at the ESC kompakt songchecks 2025.

The verdict of the bloggers:

Benny - Not my cup of tea. I find "Milkshake Man" musically quite interesting, but in the end I find it lacking both a clear structure and a good chorus. To me, the song isn't fully thought through and sounds more like an album filler. Or is it perhaps too deliberately geared towards social media functionality? The fact that the lyrics are also rather flat just adds to the problem. :4:

Berenike - Overall, the track is a bit too flat for me, and the humor is too infantile. Still, "Milkshake Man" has a few elements I like, like Go-Jo's deep voice, the xylophone, and the synth sounds. Whether it comes across as cool or embarrassing probably depends a lot on the staging. :5:

Douze Points - I really want to like the song, alone because I find Go-Jo an extremely likeable (and also a little crazy) artist. Good rhythm, nice dynamics. But then there are the clearly ambiguous lyrics. I generally like that sort of thing. But here I find it offensive, cheap, and unnecessary in an unpleasant way. Maybe because I'm missing (or don't recognize) the larger message behind it. :6:

Giulia - Not my kind of humor, very crude. I think Go-Jo will bring a lot of energy and excitement to the stage. For many Eurovision viewers, this is probably the epitome of Eurovision: shrill, loud, and frivolous. :4:

Manu - You can't really say that Go-Jo is particularly subtle lyrically. Accordingly, it's up to you to decide whether the "go" in Go-Jo is used as a cheering up or a kicking off. But as befits a good "Milkshake Man," all sorts of musical flavors are thrown together – and I feel like the mix tastes different almost every day: Sometimes I dance, sometimes I sing along, sometimes I try not to hear the lyrics. Then I enjoy watching Go-Jo offer me his milk, or musically, I'm simply enjoying the Australian version of the Scissor Sisters. I'm a little confused, but I am dancing in a good mood. :7:

The points of the other bloggers:

Chris - :7: Danio - :8: Laureen - :1: Max - :5: Peter - :12: Rick - :10:

After recently performing in Amsterdam, Go-Jo spoke to TV Tonight about having to fill a big stage as a solo act.

“I’m more used to playing with a band and having a drummer, guitar, bass. So whenever I’m solo, I tend to run around a lot more, and I can kind of lose breath a little bit more.”

While Go-Go is trim, he maintains a level of fitness for performing.

“I work on it a lot, because when you on stage, you tend to run around a lot more because you’re just so hyped from the crowd. And then you make yourself puffed. There’s so many little things like that you’ll learn from those performances.”

In both London and Amsterdam crowds also responded to the section of the song: ‘When I say sweet sweet you say yum yum!”

"Normally you can’t really hear anything through the (earpieces), but they yelled in that room so, I can’t wait for Basel."

Hope he will at least have the back singer girls on stage? For the french part and yum yum to have a bit of a dialogue? He surely won't be completely alone?

I think this one is 100% a borderline qualifier. So many predictions have this solidly in the middle of the semi qualifiers, but I just don't see this one grabbing so many votes for all the countries in the semi. I know with smaller semis you only need four or five countries giving you their top points to be at the potential qualification line, but I'm just not convinced enough voters will get behind this one to reward it enough.

The UK will throw this some votes but I can see Malta and Lithuania getting higher points from us.

Don't forget israel, we gave them 12 last year. Ireland will also get more points than Australia

I hate Lithuania's but it will qualify :(

If Go-Jo's vocals improve, then to me it is a definite qualifier.

I don’t think our neighbourly bond with Ireland is that strong :p I could see Australia getting 6 or 7 points from the UK maybe since it’s quite Mika-ish.
I think Australia will get 3 points from the UK

It's not a neighbourly bond lol, it's a diaspora which whilst not as passionate as lithuania is much larger and normally results in the uk giving ireland relatively decent points if the irish themselves like the song and they seem to like it. Though I guess her being Norwegian might result in less votes than usual.

Does anyone know if Go Jo has received sponsorship this year for his participation? Like Voyager did?

General viewers won't know though. But if you are talking in semi-finals then yes

Do you seriously think the uk commentators won't mention emmy being Norwegian, they definitely will, plus noone is going to mistake her lack of irish accent when she says thank you europe or whatever she chooses to say

General viewers won't listen fully into Graham Norton and think about him saying 1 thing

Graham Norton does comment on the finals and I'm not sure who else you think listens to him. The commentary is not for the fans. There are casuals who will watch just for Norton in the final and Rylan in the semis. Either way they will hear the complete lack of irish accent when she does her thank you bit at the end.
