NSC221: the story in three acts

Greetings and salutations, esteemed attendees, to the splendid inauguration of the 221st Natia Song Contest! Behold, for the second instance, we stand within the illustrious realm of the Griffin Empire, an honor bestowed upon us by none other than the luminary Troye Sivan, architect of our triumph in the preceding chapter. Within the confines of this press convocation, we shall unfurl the inaugural fragments that illuminate the meticulous orchestration of our cherished competition. Without further ado, let us embark upon this cerebral odyssey...
No more fancy talk, let's get to business. You are already familiar with the fact that the theme of this edition pertains to mythology. The precise slogan is "a tale in three acts," which, of course, alludes to the semi-finals and the grand final, yet it also forms the foundation of our theme, as we shall guide you through "three acts" (or rather, three epics) of Griffin myths encompassing the world's inception, the birth of music, and the world's demise. For those who possess surplus leisure and harbour a penchant for worldbuilding, this may sound somewhat unconventional, for according to our Wikipedia, the Griffin Empire is not an overtly religious realm, and their national belief system of "Griffinism" cannot be entirely labelled as a religion in the strictest sense.
Indeed, in the early annals of Griffin territories, long before their unification, the Griffinians did revere natural phenomena and the world around them, utilizing these to elucidate the occurrences befalling them. In the early stages of Griffin civilization, their veneration of nature underwent a transformation, culminating in the worship of deities personifying various natural elements. Central to their belief system was the creation myth, which established a pantheon comprising 14 gods. And through our competition, we shall acquaint ourselves with all these narratives.

Further (more important) information
The competition will evidently take place once again in our capital city, Kralingslæting, within the iconic Kralarrenaa that you are already familiar with. We hope that you will enjoy it as you did last time. The theme will be accompanied by graphics inspired by volumes of poetry, and the very shows themselves will be sung through verses.

What currently piques your greatest interest is the schedule, and you can view the timetable of all events in our somewhat clumsily crafted calendar. What you didn't anticipate when voting us as the victor is that you are, in essence, bestowing upon us a birthday gift. Precisely on the 14th of September, the Griffin Realm (aka me) celebrates Dyctyonarytydaign, or the "Day of the Realm" (more commonly known as my birthday). On that day, or perhaps the day after, we shall unveil the results. Naturally, any alterations to the schedule will be timely communicated to you. Tomorrow, we shall present the initial update of the list of participants. Until then!

The third day of submissions is underway, and thus far we have 25 songs ready for the competition. You can see the list of participants on the chart bellow, where your respective nations are traditionally arranged within the pots. Let Pots 3 and 5 awaken as swiftly as possible, if it's not too much of a bother.

Considering that our hosting this time around will be a bit different than during the 205th Nation Song Contest, we have chosen to introduce our "hosts" for form's sake. Our preceding two representatives in the Nation Song Contest – Matilda Mann and Troye Sivan, both legends who secured us top 10 placements – shall become our guides within the NSC-verse. However, this is the initial and ultimate instance of mentioning them.

Now, you might be wondering why, and the answer is both intricate and straightforward. To clarify, our three shows will, in essence, be three ancient Griffin epics. During the first semi-final, we shall delve into Mądnąýlýföůxýląül (ancient Griffin – an epic concerning the genesis of the world). We shall acquaint ourselves with the Griffin pantheon, the birth of existence, the rationale behind love's existence, and the ties between humanity and pollution (a spoiler we’re villains, yet we attribute responsibility to one of the goddesses). Amid the second semi-final, we shall explore the Griffin version of the myth of the Tower of Babel, known as Ląülýląńgýląül (ancient Griffin – an epic regarding the origin of music; or literally, a song about songs and languages). Finally, in the grand finale, we shall uncover the culmination as we read Rkèńdūrsląül (ancient Griffin – an epic about the world's end). Just as we reach this conclusion, upon the last pages where the contents usually reside, we shall discern who has mastered the mythology most adeptly and claimed the ultimate trophy. Naturally, fret not, for our tomes include illustrations, ensuring that not all shall be arid text, except for one volume titled Poems From All Over Natia, but that is a matter for later elucidation.

tldr: shows are actually just evenings of poetry, two hosts, and a current count of 25 submitted songs.
coming up: Griffin Horoscope, Poems From All Over Natia and more myths

Not sure what the colour coding on the graphic above is, but assuming the faded nations haven't yet confirmed?

Dost thou ignoreth my singular communication unto thee? xrose

Welcome back! Today, as we await new entries for the competition, we have a monthly horoscope ready for you. The Griffin horoscope isn't as popular as it once was during the early 20th century, a period of revival in the exploration of early Griffin history (pre-unification period) when the first details of the art, literature, and beliefs of the earliest Griffin period became accessible to the public. On one of the tablets discovered during archaeological research in Hermýn, a Griffin zodiac was found, dividing the year into 24 relatively equal parts, each assigned to a mythical creature or phenomenon. However, all interpretations are products of tabloid imagination and early 20th-century writers who attempted to describe individuals born in a given part of the year based on the characteristics of the creatures on the zodiac. Tell us, does your sign make sense to you?

Considering that our long-ass horoscope didn't exactly dazzle you, we're shifting our focus to the next topic, which revolves around mythology as well and that is - how religious are Griffins, if at all? The short answer is no; the longer answer is maybe. If none of this tickles your fancy, scroll to the end of the article and see if there are any new entries for the Nation Song Contest.

Ah, Griffin Empire, a land where the separation of religion and state is as sacred as the morning coffee. They've got something called ajltläharlibragar going on, which is basically a fancy way of saying they keep religion and politics in different rooms at the party. About 51.1% of the population is into this thing called "Griffinism," 46.0% are just chilling without any religion, 2.5% are off on their own spiritual journeys, and a bewildered 0.4% can't make up their minds.

aKtjv4F.png
Now, Griffinism used to be the bee's knees for over two thousand years, but it's not as hip as it once was. They've got a whopping 47,000 religious buildings, and a whopping 98% of those are either Griffin kirkjas or katedraals. These folks have hopped back and forth between religious and non-religious governments, and in 1905, they dropped the mic with the 1905 law on the Separation of the Religion and the State, giving birth to ajltläharlibragar. Basically, the government can't pick favourites when it comes to religion, and religious organizations are told to stay out of the policy-making game. Oh, and they've got this special label for certain groups known as bepaore, which is Griffin lingo for cults. Not exactly a term of endearment in Griffin lands.

So, Griffinism is less about God and more about living by the virtues of independence and self-reliance. It's like a self-help book without the crystals and meditation cushions. They don't sweat the small stuff like rigid rituals and social hierarchy; instead, it's all about embracing the unplanned rhythms of the universe. Think naturalness, simplicity, spontaneity, compassion, art, courage, love, unity, and wisdom. They've even got temples dedicated to these "delicate emotional and mental states." Fancy, right? They do love cool sculptures and lavish architecture in their temples tho.

A kirkja is where these Griffin cats get their worship on, but it's just a fancy word for a religious building. It's not a party without a cross-shaped interior and maybe a tower or dome to make you look up to the heavens and ponder the meaning of life. These places aren't just for praying; they host everything from guild meetings to mystery plays. It's like a one-stop-shop for spirituality and socializing. Katedraal, on the other hand, is like a bigger, fancier kirkja where the main priest of a city hangs out. It's all about architectural inspiration from Christian churches, because, why not? Some temples have remained significant for historical reasons, so let me introduce you to some relics from the past, like the Rhemsitiskaja Katedraal in Rhemsit. You know, the place where Griffin emperors still put on their fancy hats, or crowns, or whatever they call it these days. It's a ceremony that's so steeped in tradition, it's practically fossilized. And trust me, it's more about showing off to your fellow mortals than any divine connection.

But wait, there's more! Feast your eyes on the Bitniska Katedraal in Kralingslæting, the main hub for Griffinism. They're all about Humankind, which is a pretty broad theme, if you ask me. It's like dedicating a temple to "stuff" or "things." But here's the kicker, it's also where the Övrazvhodaliuddniq resides – the big cheese in the Griffin faith. It's like their version of the Pope, minus the funny hat and white smoke. So, if you want to meet the head honcho of the organized Griffin faith, you know where to find them – probably deep in thought about the complexities of Humankind.

0UUnJJ0.png
Ag2RoCv.png

Then you've got your average zvhodaliuddniq, these are the folks in charge of the spiritual show. They're like the therapists of the Griffin world, tackling the big questions, challenging common sense (whatever that is), and basically making you rethink everything you thought you knew. They might hear confessions, give marriage counselling, and visit the sick in hospitals – but don't expect them to do that every day. They've got spiritual direction down to an art form, though.

KYoDnwB.png
Also, Griffinism didn't just pop out of nowhere. It started with some nature-loving action, where 14 goddesses reigned supreme, each representing some natural element or concept. There was a lot of creating and myth-making going on, with some goddesses getting a little too creative for their own good. Pollution and evil were born out of boredom, apparently. Ancient temples were like art galleries, adorned with sculptures and scenes straight out of ancient myths. They even had a thing for ceremonial herb-burning, metal smelting, and written prayers.

As time passed, these myths got all philosophical, and they ended up with a supreme goddess and then they dropped her as well. So, forget about the singular god concept; Griffinism is all about being yourself.

Lord, the Griffin mythology is all-encompassing xfaint Where all my Craigwretches at?? Let's all problem-solve together xheya

Quick point of note though. It actually took me ages to realise that you have included the submission deadline in the thread, but idk if it's just my old person eyes that didn't make it super-obvious.

Maybe have a bold deadline in the first post, or even better in the subject? Just so the deadline doesn't come around and you find you're still missing 12 entries

In the distant hamlet of Gmöt, nestled amid the enigmatic woods and shadowy hills, dwelled a populace consumed by malevolence and treachery. The air grew heavy with their wickedness, and the goddess of air and wind, Vēvā, stirred with righteous fury. To chasten these errant souls, she invoked a curse that gave life to a malevolent creature known as Eresneh.

1AZtIKU.png
Eresneh was a grotesque enigma, a serpent of colossal proportions, bereft of a head but possessed of tails at both its ends. It slithered through the heavens, birthing tempests and tornadoes that wreaked havoc upon the town. On the earth, it writhed with terrifying ferocity, demolishing buildings and obliterating all in its path. The once-thriving hamlet now cowered in perpetual dread.

Desperation took hold, and the citizens, beseeching Vēvā for mercy, recognized the depths of their depravity. They yearned to atone for their transgressions. Vēvā, in her mercy, offered them a slender thread of hope. She decreed that they must labor to fashion an immense stone, and with great care, place it upon Eresneh as it slumbered. This stone, engraved with potent spells, fervent prayers, and earnest pleas for tranquility, would serve as their redemption.

The townsfolk, driven by the specter of impending doom, toiled unceasingly. They quarried a colossal rock from the very bones of the earth, crafting it into a mighty column. Onto its surface, they etched mystic sigils and beseeching words, weaving within it the essence of their desires. At the appointed hour, they positioned this grand stone atop the serpent's colossal form as it rested.

XUiD3ve.png
In that moment, the magic enshrined within the stone came alive, ensnaring Eresneh in an unbreakable bond. Neither living nor dead, the creature lay paralyzed, its malevolence tethered to the whims of the stone. The colossal pillar, thereafter known as "stuppa," became a living testament to the town's transformation and the latent power within their unity.

Time unfurled its relentless tapestry, and Vēvā, the wind goddess, beheld the sincerity in the hearts of Gmöt's inhabitants. Their metamorphosis was undeniable, their resolve unyielding. Thus, she chose to bestow her grace once more. With a breath as gentle as the zephyrs, she scattered the essence of Eresneh into the boundless winds, dissolving the monstrous entity into oblivion. The curse was lifted, and the town was freed.
