I wouldn't, picking apart notations means we can find arbitrary differences between any two versions of a song. For the purpose of NSC's rule, I think legal semantics and artistic intent trumps musical theory.
But again, this is where the covers rule has always been so contentious, since music at its very heart is subjective, and open to interpretation by each individual listener in different ways. It's never just a clear cut thing unless there is a clear intent and proof from the writers/producers/artists that they set out to create a cover version.

Sorry, I don't really understand what you want to point out or where (if) there's a contradiction. And in this case we do have proof of intent, as provided by @Lenalite in the ongoing poll thread, ergo I'm saying that the rule that we have can allow it, while the rule we reverted two years ago would not have been more in favor of this entry, only the same. Especially when that rule called for "significant structural differences", but the differences you pointed out are, as you said, "very small changes".

Please understand that I am not arguing against allowing Xhuxhmaxhuxh's entry, on the contrary, I'm pointing out how it can be allowed within the confines of the rules.

Wow NSC... out of 20/27 songs shortlisted is incredible. You've all outdone yourselves here.

I really hope Xhuxhmaxhuxh's song is kept in. I think there is enough evidence for it being distinct, at least to my satisfaction. xpray

I merely meant that to me, the points I made were evidence in my mind of a change in the structure of the song. But I understand why people would not interpret it in that way.

Hence my comment on the subjectivity of music, and how difficult it is to police these rules. Not trying to cause drama, I'm way too old for that shizz

Alright then. I don't want drama either, it just confused me as to how it was in response to my post. I'll take it you were basically "musing".

Anyway, digressing somewhat, this is what I would say is the biggest reason the cover rule discussions we've had have been so contentious, a lot of the time people simply don't understand each other and are discussing on entirely different pages.

That's why I really hope that if we do reopen that debate, we do better this time. The rule we ended up with the first time had good intentions, but effectively it wasn't more liberal, just more confusing.

Anyone who doesn't have access to the poll in the private forum can PM me their vote on whether the Xhuxhmaxhuxh entry should be allowed. @Luke and anyone else who can't access it and wants to vote.

(The permissions for the private forum will be updated soon, but I can't guarantee that it will happen before the poll deadline.)
