Re: İstanbul: WV 91: Hip
Honestly RainyWoods this means much more to me then a ticket to the final. Yes, I could send some random mainstream hits but anyone else could do that as well. Yes, I would love to actually be competitive as well in WV. However in the end I'm here to share music from the people who made me feel 'something' who have inspired me and who've truly helped me in those times where no one else could. Banu has always cheered me up listening to her songs or just watching her on tv Bülent has encouraged me to be myself in an environment where it might not even always be safe to just be 'yourself'. These people made me and I feel proud to send them and see that at least a handfull of people feel the same things I do when they listen to their music. That is more then enough validation for me to keep doing what I'm doing. I'd rather have that handfull and never qualify, then being somewhere in the middle really.
Just to give you an example on Bülent, The Turkish goverment offered her to continue her life as a female long as she kept it from the public, changed her name etc. They would fix everything for her including the money for surgeries yet she decided she didn't want any of that, she was not affraid or ashamed of who she was and was then banished from Turkey and moved to Germany. They even tried to kill her and imprisoned her, and she in the end attempted suicide herself. However she came back strong and fought for all lgbt rights in Turkey from Germany. She succeeded and in the end being trans in Turkey was legal as well as the sex change operation in 1988. Peoples perspective changed as well. And then she became easily one of the biggest respected artists ever in Turkey thanks to both her voice and her bravery. One of the most shocking things at her comeback according to some was that she never changed her name Bülent, which is a male name. Not shocking to me at all, just respect that she is willing to make such a statement
And even though we're still so far behind compared to other countries, if we have some kind of rights it is thanks to her. I always say that. This was btw the not so short, short version. But I feel like I just needed to put all this down here.
