I would say that is a pretty harsh assessment. That's how you write a song did well because it was Alexander Ryback and he is talented with great stage presence, but I wouldn't say it was a great entry. I would also say this is better than icebreaker from 2016. Given the MGP options from this year, this was the best choice to send. I agree that the choreo is lacking and needs to be sincerely improved, but it can be done. I wouldn't panic until you see the rehearsals. If he gets that far and still is not up to snuff then yes, its safe to say he will have weak vocals. He is young, and used to being in a group. I think he could improve his live show before the week kicks off.The song is kinda decent when you just listen to the song though
But the choreography is kind of awful? Also his voice at the pre-party just confirmed my suspicions of how much his real vocals drowned in playback in MGP + a friend of mine who's friends with one of the dancers told me that he said Kyle was using autotune in MGP lol
This is sadly our worst entry since Tooji
You know, one thing I have noticed with this song is that it did not show a lot of promise during the initial odds, but the more people listen to it and see him live, the better the reviews on it are getting. Especially considering Kyle's age and the nature of the performance itself, he is way more talented than he has gotten credit for. I could see a strong finish for this for sure. Not confident enough to call it a top 5 finish, but I am willing to throw out a top 10. This is one of my personal favorites and has been since day one. I love the message behind the phrase "be my own lighter", if you don't know the story, give it a look. It has a powerful meaning to Kyle himself.Today it wasturn at the ESC kompakt songchecks 2025.

The verdict of the bloggers:
Chris - Kyle is super likeable, and the song has a very catchy hook. This should definitely not be underestimated when it comes to the top rankings.
Giulia - It hits a lot of the things I don't like in songs: the Latin-influenced beat, the annoying tone to the beat, and the repetition of one phrase. I feel like I've heard this song 200 times somewhere.
Manu - The more I listen to "Lighter," the more I like it. While the song isn't something I haven't heard before, the mix of danceable rhythms, folk sounds, and a very catchy melody works well for me and puts me in a good mood.
Max - Norway often has catchy songs, and "Lighter" continues that tradition for me. It's one of the songs I listen to most often on the Eurovision Song Contest playlist, and Kyle's performance in the preliminary round was also very good. Of course, Norway isn't reinventing the wheel here and is playing it safe, but for me, they've met a few criteria for a good result.
Peter - Great! Nothing new in the north, but good, good, good. Kyle speaks what feels like ten languages, from what I've seen on TikTok. This song is catchy, and the beat is inspiring and puts you in a good mood. Anyone who comes up with a great dance break has already won me over. Top ten is safe.
Rick - I love everything about "Lighter"! A song that, with its reggaeton and dance influences, fits perfectly into 2025. It's a superbly produced song with an international vibe. The composition is super catchy, I also like the stage design so far, and Kyle seems incredibly confident and charismatic. There's nothing to complain about. Even though the song probably won't land in the top five, Norway is very high on my list.

Is that cause of the ethno-pop backing beat? That is not a critique of your opinion either, just asking because that is not what came to mind for me, more so curious. It reminds me a lot of Tali's song last year
Something about the melody of the chorus reminds me of it. And maybe because the title rhymes with Fighter, also.Is that cause of the ethno-pop backing beat? That is not a critique of your opinion either, just asking because that is not what came to mind for me, more so curious.

I agree it's not a strong entry by Norwegian standards. However it's in a SF of only 15 songs with some real stinkers... looking at its performance and the overall package, I feel its qualification chances are very high. I don't see it having much success in the GF.I don’t think I said anything that wasn’t true though, like can you honestly say right now that the choreography and his singing is any good?
Agnete and Alexander Rybak were also two of our worst entries as well so he’s definitely in that club lol… unless he can deliver a really good performance in Basel with a much better staging, choreography and vocals
3 X 12 points for this! At least that goes some way towards explaining how the hell theToday it wasturn at the ESC kompakt songchecks 2025.

Well, I mean I won't come out and say that what you said isn't true, I don't want to discredit anyone's opinion. I will agree that the choreography leads much to be desired, but I also don't think it is bad either, just a bit bland that is all. I think it is fitting for the theme and the song itself. As far as his voice is concerned, I quite like it, but that is my personal preference. I liked the performance I saw at the Amsterdam pre-party. If you are not a fan of his voice that is cool, I won't say that is a bad opinion lol. Don't get me wrong, this is not winning, in fact I would call it a win to finish on the left side of the board. What are your top Norway entries? From either MGP or Eurovision. For me, I love Fairytale, I know I know that is a basic answer, but I can't help it, that is the song that brought me into the fold here.I don’t think I said anything that wasn’t true though, like can you honestly say right now that the choreography and his singing is any good?

Yea, I mean I know this brand of 'boy band pop' is not to everyone's liking but considering his age, he has really good stage presence and confidence. He's only 18, when you think about that it's actually really good achievement for someone of his age.
