I'll wait for the song of course as that's perhaps the most important thing here now, considering it's clear this group can sing well live at least. Also hate the part where they said they needed to go back to the basics (supposedly the vocals).

Gurl, the vocals are obligatory if you want to do anything at the contest but won't get you far without charisma, staging and the song and I believe the charisma and the song will not be present here at least no to the extent that they'd succeed.

I may be wrong but so many wrong opinions by these two.

I get the feeling that whatever they were going to say, some fans were going to twist and contort it to conform to their preconceived view of the UK and Remember Monday.

Let’s remember, we’ve not even heard their song yet.

Well, they didn't say specifically that it's not country, but country really isn't something that I would describe as very British and "that they are going back to British heritage" (but maybe the HoD is just talking tripe).

If this is true and RM are the artist they made three big mistakes:

1. Selecting an ex-voice participant who didn't win (that doesn't end well in 80 % of cases, especially for the UK) and nobody knows.
2. Not even letting them write the song but find EUROVISION songwriters that AREN'T British to write for them.
3. And then not even letting them sing in the genre they like and normally have songs in.

And just to pick up on some of these earlier points of yours…

1) Often the people who don’t win UK talent shows have the biggest/best careers. So I don’t we can really take anything from this. It feels like a point of negativity for the sake of negativity.

2) Not sure what the nationality of the songwriters has to do with anything. People from outside the UK can and do write music and songs for UK singers - it comes across as a really weird point to make.

And while I’m not a fan of writing specifically for Eurovision, it may work for us this year. The writers might just get the right formula - we simply don’t know at this stage.

3) Till we hear their song, I’m not really addressing this one as it’s a real unknown at this point.

If the prior posted footage is an indicator of the act that is representing the UK then all I have to say is that they are totally fine.

Which as I have said year after year is a problem. Oh sure, I'll take this lot over Josh Dubovie or Electro Velvet but their music is just nice. It is pleasant to listen to, and I'm sure that whatever they present will be just as nice and that everyone will love it come the contest. However, how many of those who love it will vote for it is the issue. Embers, Dizzy, I Wrote A Song, they are all fine and nice songs in and of themselves, they all felt of the moment they came out, but everyone just listened to them, largely enjoyed them, but didn't feel strongly enough to vote for them.

I hope that whatever they have (if it is them) will really knock it out of the park and be just as compelling as Spaceman was. But all we can do is just see.

I admit I made a lot of assumptions but most of them have some ground.

1) Sure but most of them don't.

2) Again, when you claim that the song has a British essence but is then not even written by the Brits? This can't be. I don't mind when countries like Malta, Cyprus, San Marino borrow foreign songwriters but the UK literally has the BIGGEST music industry in Europe and one of the biggest in the world and you're telling me (this sounds rude, don't wanna be rude xheart) that the BBC with all the connections and resources they have, couldn't find a good song written by the Brits?

3) I mean, he said that the song has a British essence to it and that they're going back to the British heritage. Country music isn't that and they are a country artist, so? Or again he's just telling porkies.

Yeah, I think there were some leaps made for sure. It’s your opinion, so that fine. What I will say is that point 1) again does seem quite dismissive for the sake of it.

On point 2) again I’ll say why does the nationality matter?

To me, the song doesn’t have to be written by the country being represented regardless of who it is. Much the same as the nationality of the singer themselves. Someone from a different country can still give an essence of the country they are writing for. That’s the magic of writing.

3) British music isn’t steeped in a long history of country music, but off the top of my head I can immediately name The Shires and Ward Thomas who have been going for quite a few years each - both are country acts.

The essence to me can come down to the production. The way UK songs are produced has a certain way about them that is unlike other countries. Maybe that’s what they mean?

Remember Monday’s song could still have a distinct UK/British essence feel to it - even if country isn’t an immediately British genre.

First song that popped up when I gave 'em the ol' YouTube search is more going for a HAIM-y altpop-y vibe that I enjoyed a lot rather than the kind of Euro attempt at country music that causes my Mine-Eyes-Have-Seen-The-Glory-Of-The-Coming-Of-The-Lord patriotism to flare up which I feared I'd get. Hoping they go in that direction at ESC.

I'd be very happy if their Eurovision entry is anything like the band HAIM. They might actually be better live than the studio version.

Maybe the music video isn't ready yet, so the BBC are waiting for that? I bet it won't be until March that it's official. xgiggle

I think this from Marina's latest album would have hit so hard at Eurovision, especially in the world today with what's going on in America and the rise of fascist "masculinity" behaviour from straight men.
