We asked, #YOU voted, and we are finally ready to count down your favourite entries from this year’s national finals that couldn’t make it to Tel Aviv. Which song will be crowned the inaugural champion of #YOUrovision, and which hidden gems deserved more recognition?
Let’s begin with the first five songs in our top 50…
50 🇳🇴 Adrian Jørgensen – The Bubble
Kicking off our countdown and sneaking into the top 59 is the runner-up from this year’s Melodi Grand Prix in Norway. Adrian Jørgensen’s sweet guitar ballad with shades of Michael Schulte (even down to the Polaroid picture staging) was not quite strong enough to displace KEiiNO in the Tel Aviv line-up, but certainly struck a chord with many viewers and fans, and remains a memorable performance in this year’s national final season.
49 🇸🇮 Kim – Rhythm Back To You
Kim’s “Rhythm Back To You” only finished in 8th place in this year’s EMA in Slovenia, but the combination of her soulful, diva-like vocals with a pounding power pop track and bright, eye-catching visuals earmarked this song as a treat for our readers and voters.
48 🇺🇦 TseSho – Hate
Ukraine’s national final may have been ultimately doomed with the drama that followed, but we shouldn’t discount the hidden gems that cropped up in Vidbir 2019. Take for example this jazzy, string-laden number about hatred for a number of things including pacifism and Eurovision itself. While it may not have been to everyone’s taste, it enamoured enough of our voters to sneak inside the top 50 in this countdown.
47 🇭🇷 Luka Nižetić – Brutalero
Croatia’s Dora made a spectacular return to our screens earlier this year, and one of the highlights was Luka Nižetić’s energetic, colourful performance of the Latin-inspired Brutalero. With a well-choreographed routine lending itself to pop culture and bright, vibrant aesthetics, this would’ve been sure to catch the eye and light up the dancefloor if it had made it to Tel Aviv.
46 🇩🇪 Makeda – The Day I Loved You Most
One thing for sure is that there is a lack of emotive ballads in English sung beautifully, so perhaps the choice made by Germany not to select Makeda with “The Day I Loved You Most” was a loss to the diversity of this year. Her captivating performance pulled at the heartstrings enough to put her in 46th place in our countdown.
Come back tomorrow morning to see which songs finished between 45th and 40th place in this year’s countdown!
