Thanks to our friends at ERT, I was able to sit down with Victor Vernicos who is representing Greece in Liverpool for a quick interview.

Victor was extremely excited to speak with us during his available time, which it seems that he has a lot of because of his online schooling right now. He also discussed to us that his Eurovision song was a creative product that started when he was only 14 years old, and was inspired by a personal experience. He also shared that the songwriting process was finished in two days time but production took a total of 6 months.

And while there were other songs that he could have submitted he chose this one after hearing Amanda Tenfjord’s song for Turin last year. There was also conversation of possible radio edits or remixes for “What They Say”.Victor also revealed his desire to work with Vesna on a new song due to their alternative melodies and hard-hitting sound, so be on the look out for that potential collaboration.

Who is Victor Vernicos

Victor is the youngest artist artist competing in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest and is also the youngest singer that Greece has sent to the contest in their 46 year history. Born into a Greek and Danish family he has a fondness for water, but also has a love of the cold deeply ingrained into him. He began his journey with music at the age of four by learning piano, and started writing his own songs by age 11. “What They Say” is Victor’s eight released single to date.
