With the first semi-final only a few days away we are finding out more and more about the show SVT is putting on. We already know some of our interval acts, but the opening acts were a big unknown. Until now;

On Tuesday, the first semi-final will open with a piece named ‘United By Music’, a showcase of Eurovision’s other acts, those who don’t win. We are all ‘United By Music’ even if we don’t win the contest.

And we have 3 famous returning acts to the stage, 3 non-winners if you must, but still Eurovision icons.

Eleni Foureira from 2018 is back to bring some ‘Fuego’ to the Malmo stage. Coming second in 2018, she is still and always will be an icon to Eurovision fans and lovers. She will be joined on stage by,

Eric Saade of 2011. Another ‘Popular’ artist who finished second in Dusseldorf has becoming huge in his home country and remains a well known name within the world of Eurovision. When Eurovision was last in Malmo he hosted the Green Room, and has since re-competed in Melodifestivalen.

Finally, Chanel returns to the Eurovision stage 2 years after her ‘Slomo’ performance transformed Eurovision in Turin. She gave Spain their best result since 1995 and has since released her debut album running more successful than her Eurovision performance.

The three Eurovision icons will be joined on stage by 24 dancers, where they perform their Eurovision songs from their respective contests. Director of this years Eurovision Edward af Sillen says this about the opening act;

“We want to kickstart this year’s edition with a big pop number that showcases Sweden’s immense love for this competition and demonstrates how we are all United by Music. Three fantastic live artists from every corner of Eurovision, who may not have won the gold, but who won the hearts of the audience. This number is set to raise the bar for the entire week, and we hope the audience will love it.”
