Back in 1997 Katrina and the Waves took Europe by storm, and won the Eurovision Song Contest by a landslide, with 227 points in the Point Theatre in Dublin. Today, Irish singer,Lee Matthews has released a cover of the winning song with proceeds going to the charity, Join Our Boys.

The Charity has been set up in aid of Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). which is a fatal neurological disease which effects 1 in 3500 boys each year. The average life expectancy for an individual with DMD is just 25 years old. The charity, Join Our Boys, aims to raise awareness of the illness and “to ensure ‘Our Boys’ have the additional resources they require to function; to remain mobile for as long as is possible and to live a life filled with purpose and meaning, despite their physical limitations”, as well as “To work in collaboration and support registered charities funding research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy that aim to fund a treatment or cure into this devastating disease”

Lee Matthews is a 25 year old singer/songwriter born in Omagh, Northern Ireland, and has been working within the music industry since 1995. He has worked with big names such as Snoop Dogg, Westlife, and Daniel O’Donnell, to name a few. Matthews believes in this charity and has decided to dedicate his new single to it.

Love Shine A Light was originally performed by Katrina and the Waves, and was the representative of the United Kingdom in the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest, which went on to win the contest, and remains the highest scoring winning entry within a single Eurovision Song Contest (prior to 2004).
