Marcis Redmanis is a member of the group Headline, which is competing in Dziesma 2013 with their song “Love.” Marcis was kind enough to talk with us a bit about his experience as he prepares for Dziesma with his bandmates.

ESC UNITED:  First off, congratulations of your success in Dziesma 2013.  Tell us a bit about yourself and how you became a songwriter.
MARCIS:  I have been writing songs since first band which I with Lauris were participating – Fame – and so it become very good chemistry between us in song writing and together we are creating great master pieces since then.

ESC UNITED: How would describe your song “Love“?
MARCIS:  I think it’s a catchy song (if not with the first time, then after third time when hear it, you’ll be singing along with it and remembering it for a very long time) with great melody and true words which is written basing on real emotions.

ESC UNITED: What led you to deciding to submitting Love to Dziesma 2013?
MARCIS: Eurovision is a great contest through which can get the song and it`s message very fast to larger audience, and song “Love” was with its format perfectly for the contest and also its catchy and a good song, so we decided to go for it.

ESC UNITED: So where were you when you found out Love made it? What was the first thing you did?
MARCIS: I was driving in my car when the phone started ringing. There were no large celebrations, just everybody enjoying it.

ESC UNITEDNow that we are a few days away from Dziesma 2013, how are you feeling?  How are you and your team preparing for your Semi-Final?
MARCISSome of our band got ill during last two weeks, so it’s a bit stressful, but we’re trying to do our best, so see and watch on 8th February!  Just arrived from the rehearsal with a band. Everything seems all right. I hope people will catch the message and song will continue it’s way.

ESC UNITEDWhat do you believe is the key to winning a song contest like Dziesma or Eurovision?
MARCISArtists must ensure public get the performance and message, and the song must be great and catchy. Or the performance must be shocking somehow.

ESC UNITED: Do you have any favorite Eurovision songs?|
MARCISHard to name one, so better leave this question to the fans to answer!

ESC UNITED: What advice would you give to anyone interested in songwriting?
MARCIS: Write what you feel or want to feel, not only because you think that you can write and do it like a job. It must come out from inside of you.

ESC UNITED: Any closing thoughts you would you like to share with your fans?
MARCISEnjoy Eurovision 2013, listen and vote for us, and keep up everything positive!

ESC UNITED: Marcis, best of luck to you and the rest of the guys from Headline this weekend at Dziesma 2013.
