Every year our “Expert” Panel comes together to judge all entries for the Eurovision Song Contest and they’re back to take apart the 2013 entries and rank them accordingly. While their characters and comments may be wacky, the scores are dead serious. All 13 panelists will comment on the song and rank them accordingly giving it points using a scale from five to zero. At the end you’ll also get to cast your vote in the poll. If you would learn more about the panelists and to discuss the show, join us on our Forum HERE

Let’s have a look at the current scoreboard:

Now it is Slovenia’s turn who went internally for 2013 due to budget cuts and decided to send Hannah Mancine with her song “Straight into love”. It’s time to find out if the Panel fell in love with this entry…..or not.

Dark MasterThere is too much dubstep in this song, but nevertheless I somehow enjoy the whole thing. It is just like mixing vinegar with baking soda, and… it goes… boooom. She has an appeal and her voice is bearable. It goes straight into my dark heart. Her hair almost reminds me of the one I truly loved.

Grandpa WatermanOne good heck of an beauty this young un! Even though I do not understand this type of music I like it!

RobertAmong all electro-pop-dance songs of this year this song is the most appropriate for my taste, though something is really missing. I can’t feel Slovenian spirit in it. The singer has a strong voice and I suppose she has a good potential to be a great singer, but the song is kinda boring, especially you feel it nearer to end. Maybe the addition of something interesting to the composition could save it, but the current impression is not very good

Scotty Too HottyThe first time I heard this, I thought it was pretty good -especially to dance to. I could see this in my local club. However, after a few more listens, I felt it was a little too repetitive and I feel people will get a little too bored of it if they’re not drunk! I can see dance goers loving it but everyone else hating it. Hannah has a pretty strong voice particularly int he chorus. I didn’t think she would after listening to the first few lines.

Remember Bulgaria 2008? This is a slightly improved version of what we heard then. Instead of four words that kept repeating, this time we hear a more elaborate phrase which goes on and on and on… It seems that the girl just goes straight into … trash.

Petronella PoetryThis song is from the beginning what “hip” people would call “cool”. But the more you hear, the more one think that the songwriters need to go to musicschool. It becomes too flat for my taste. And just makes my time feel like a waste. But the singer seems very good. That is something that earning points should.

Emma MagnusonThe chorus of this song is too much dubstep for my beautiful royal ears. The girl’s got nice voice, but the song is not good enough I’m afraid.

King Valentino XVIIMy god Ralph Siegel above is dis Slovenian song so boring.. and it’s a dance song to. It should leave me excitant but no. The problemo is a the chorus. It hass the same fart music as the verse. It just leaves me feeling so unexcitant and wannaing it to ennnd. She as a good voice though. Strong, powerful, piercing. It’s just a shame the song was not composed by Ralph Siegel. He knows how to make excitant dance songs like “I Can’t Live Without Music” or a “Get Happy”.

I have opinions of my own, strong opinions. But I don’t always agree with them and that’s how I feel about the song. This song is the kind you want to dance to at a cheap bar that nobody likes. And while Hannah has a great voice, I don’t agree that I like it and I disagree that I just don’t think it’s a good song so you do agree with me, right?

Britni SpirsovicWhat is this? This is mess, womp womp womp. Straight into love? Why don’t you go straight into the bottom of the scoreboard? Eh? I do not think it is much good but the singer sings good. Me thinks she is better than me, but her song is bad. It is 80s inspired with some modern elements. Nice flow and rhythm, only good things I can say about it. The end.

Alex ChandhokMy ears! Make the pain stop! I don’t consider this genre to be music, It’s so bad. Horrible dubstep nonsense that has no tune or melody whatsoever. It is genuinely difficult to listen to because It just doesn’t right. The backing track is just way too harsh and doesn’t allow me to try and enjoy it. Hannah is a good singer, and is wasted on this song. Truthfully, i t belongs in the trash. If Slovenia can’t qualify with Eva Boto, they certainly won’t even come close with this. Hopeless.

MorenikAaaagh my ears! Who put this woman in charge of representing a country, she shouldn’t be left to represent herself! And then whatever excuse for dubstep there is, no, this is an awful song. I’ve had stale milk that tastes better than this song sounds!

Eau d'yre LizzyEau: Sometimes I like things not too expensive. And sometimes people cannot afford to buy a song at the Swedish IKEA. So they have to build something themselves that is as good as IKEA quality. I mean, look at this wonderful piece of PVC made in Slovenia.
Liz: Oh and plastic items are so hard to break down and… (to be continued)

“Straight into love” is not a bad song by any means, it is a very credible dance entry with dubstep elements and Hannah is not a bad performer probably..It is a small let down compared to the previous 2 great slovenian entries but it does nothing wrong in particular. It may have an advantage of being one of few uptempo songs in the first semi and the contest in general but there are better options in this field as well (Germany, Sweden, Bulgaria..). I kinda like it and it may grow on me once I have seen it performed live but right now it is just ok. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not the usual thing from SLOVENIA. I am afraid one of their weakest places this year

The more I listen to this song, the more I like. Would we consider this Dubstep with that backbeat?
