Every year our “Expert” Panel comes together to judge all entries for the Eurovision Song Contest and they’re back to take apart the 2013 entries and rank them accordingly. While their characters and comments may be wacky, the scores are dead serious. All 13 panelists will comment on the song and rank them accordingly giving it points using a scale from five to zero. At the end you’ll also get to cast your vote in the poll. If you would learn more about the panelists and to discuss the show, join us on our Forum HERE

Let’s have a look at the current scoreboard:

France is next in line to be judged by our panel. The broadcaster once again chose the artist internally and chose Amandine Bourgeois who won a singing talent show in 2008. Her song “L’enfer et moi” was released on March 13th.

Britni SpirsovicNot many pipl know that my mother was a big big fan of jazz and lounge music. As a litl grl, I always listened to such music. Therefore, songs like this are instant hits in my heart like “Bejbi wan mor tajm” in your hearts. Amandine is magnifique, she has soul and how do you say… character… She owns her song, her vocal vibe is wonderful. It is almost like Patricia Kaas except she is not Patricia Kaas. Amandine’s song is powerful, so is her voice. Perfect artist with perfect song.

MorenikThis has a nice beat. Thump thump thump thump, very consistent! And consistency is what you need in music, otherwise you end up with something like the Romanian entry, again, I cannot express how terrible I feel having listened to it and knowing that it was an uninjured person howling like that!

Alex ChandhokGood grief, this song and the singer just ooze attitude. It is clearly very French, and some will be put off by the lack of an extra tempo. It doesn’t change pace very often and isn’t trying to blow you away with loud noise. It’s kind of Bluesy Rock and the guitar and drums are used differently to allow this song to stand out. Amandine’s singing is amazing and so different from anything else this year. This excites me because we rarely hear anything like this at ESC. A dark horse to do very well. Love this.

King Valentino XVIIJe suis malade. At first I thought this song was quite harsh, quite metallic BUT after going on the internet oh oh uh oh oh were I spend MOOOST of my time.. I look up a the video. The song is still harsh and metallic but maybe I quite like it. Sometimes we must suffer a little to find good. Her voice is probably the highlight ere. The accomplishment is very bare and simple. This is quite an impressive display of emotions though. I start to appreciate.

I read in a book that France is a big country, inhabited by many French people. One of them is Amadine with a solid Rock song that leaves a good impression. The chorus is especially strong and she can definitely sing.

Petronella PoetryOh very tough! Great edge and filled with lot of stuff. Really like the melody in this. But it doesn’t makes me bliss. This can do pretty well though. This is going to grow.

Eau d'yre LizzyLiz: Who could expect that France would send this kind of music? This is rather unusual.
Eau: Yes I was surprised too. We rarely hear blues rock at Eurovision. But I’m not sure what the French were thinking. Surely we can assume they want a good result, but blues rock has rarely delivered on Eurovision nights. It may please the blues fans in Europe but won’t attract points from the vast majority.
Liz: After their attempt with Anggun last year, this choice is quite fascinating. France is… (to be continued)

RobertThe song content sounds good enough, the voice of the singer is strong and has jazzy influences. But after several times it start to seem very boring and blind. Maybe France will be successful only because of Amadine voice. It’s really very powerful

Glittery S BobThis one reminds me of Amy Winehouse, I don’t know why. Maybe her style, who knows? Anyway, the song itself it doesn’t say anything. There are 3 minutes of some kind of music.

Dark MasterThis is a kind of song I play when I do mark exams, make potions that are of high importance and require plenty of focus. It is something there to play and not bother me while I work. I cannot remember anything she sang or how she sang, so 1 point will be given to France instead of a zero…as the song does have some kind of….. use

Emma MagnusonWhat a monotonous song. It becomes annoying after the first minute and you just look forward for it to finish. Excusez-moi, France.

Grandpa WatermanI think the lass has messed up huge time!

Scotty Too HottyHer voice reminds me of Pixie Lott for some reason – justFrench (obviously!) This song doesn’t seem to flow that well and doesn’t haveany impact. It’s boring and needs some oomph! There is no doubt Amandine cansing (in the non screamy parts) but she will have to do something magical onstage not to be in the bottom 5 this year! Unlucky….

France is maybe my favourite country in Europe and Eurovision and I LOVE chansons more than Britpop or anything else. But I have to tell you, my french friends, that this effort for the Eurovision, is arrogant and boring. Sorry 🙁

Interesting expert opinions, although I don’t always agree with everyone. Well done!
