Back in August, Swiss broadcaster SRF held an open call for song and artist submissions for Eurovision 2024. At the time, we only knew for certain that the song would be internally selected and revealed sometime early next year, but thanks to an update from the commentators from French-language channel RTS, we have some additional insight into the ongoing process.

According to Jean-Marc Richard and Nicolas Tanner, out of over 420 submissions received, five were chosen for a live recording session at SRF studios last week. These five artists’ songs will be presented to a professional jury and an international panel of listeners to choose the one that will represent Switzerland in Malmö this May. The final decision will be made early in the year but will not be unveiled publicly until March, which is in line with previous years’ release dates: Remo Forrer’s “Watergun” premiered on March 7, 2023, and Marius Bear released “Boys Do Cry” on March 8 the year before.

While the post revealed no specifics about the five finalists, it did express optimism about the process and Switzerland’s hopes for 2024, mentioning the songs all have potential, and that “there’s a possibility [for Switzerland] to do better than 2023”.

The commentators’ post made note of Switzerland’s four-year qualification streak with talented male performers, do #YOU think they should try it a fifth time or pivot to something new? Let us know on social media @ESCUnited, on our Discord, or on our forum page!
