After a relatively quiet week on the Eurovision news front today we have had an update from Switzerland. Today their German-Swiss broadcaster SRF announced that they had narrowed down all of the 420 songs received to a shortlist of just five. This was done by a set of juries made up of a 100 person audience panel and a 20 person international panel.

Now the songs have been chosen by the broadcaster they are now starting the process of pairing the songs with the right singer, one of which will represent Switzerland at Eurovision in Tel Aviv in May.

Of the songs submitted to SRF, some of them were already known to the public with RSI (the Italian-Swiss broadcaster) holding an online poll. This poll included Switzerland’s 2014 entrant Sebalter and the uplifting song “We’ll Carry The Light” It is unknown if any of the songs submitted by RSI made it to the final five.

SRF is determined to change Switzerland’s fortunes in Eurovision and hopefully this new approach will bring them the result they want! In the last ten years they have only qualified for the final twice, in 2011 with Anna Rossinelli and in 2014 with Sebalter. Will 2019 be their next lucky break?

SRF also confirmed that singer and song chosen will be released in March next year.

What do #YOU think? Who would you like to represent Switzerland? Will you miss the Die Entscheidungsshow? Let us know by either leaving a comment below contacting us on our forum or our social media!
