Its back! In the words of Aftonbladet, Melodifestivalen Silly Season has returned and as always back with a bang!
Each year, Swedish magazine Aftonbladet releases details of the likely Melfest acts for the year ahead. In 2023 they were successful in naming 24 of 28 artists who competed across the 6-week show. In 2021, that was 27 of 28. Artists are placed under a contract with SVT that does not allow them to announce their participation in Melodifestivalen before they announce it.
Everything here can be taken with a pinch of salt, this year, it seems that companies and producers have had word of mouth on competitors, but no official confirmation.
So, without further ado, here are the first 4 rumoured Melodifestivalen artists.
Lasse Stefanz, a dansband from Kristanstad in Skane, are the first rumoured act for Melfest next year. They have been performing as a group since 1967 and have multiple top hits from across the years. They last competed in Melfest in 2011, with their song “En Blick och Nagot Hander”. Just missing out on a place in the second chance round.
After finishing 3rd last year in Stockholm, Smash Into Pieces are back with another song. Their song, “Six Feet Under” now has over 19 million streams on Spotify. The rock band, formed in 2008, have recently released a new single and been on a European Tour. They will be looking to gain on this popularity and success from Melfest 2023.
Liamoo is back as well. The 26 year old is rumoured to be returning to the Melfest stage for the 4th time. First competing in 2018, he had duet success in 2018 and 2019 and in 2022 he finished 4th with his song “Bluffin”. Liamoo is no stranger to winning Tv singing shows, winning Swedish Idol in 2016.
And finally, Dotter is back. Fan favourite from the 2020 and 2021 seasons, she is rumoured to be back with a vengeance to take the Songbird home. She first stepped onto the Melfest stage in 2018, but came second in 2020, just 1 point behind winners The Mamas. In 2021 she came 4th with her song “Little Tot”. Since her last time on the Melfest stage, she has become a mother (which she announced while presenting points for Sweden) and also releasing music in Swedish. The Aftonbladet informant says that her entry will be in English though, admitting that that is the way to win Melfest now.
And that is it! Our first 4 rumoured artists for Melodifestivalen 2024. Sweden won Eurovision in Liverpool this year, with Loreen taking the crown for the second time, the first woman to do so and only the second person after Johnny Logan. So whoever steps on the Melfest stage has big shoes to fill.
