Serbian broadcaster RTS has confirmed that they will be in Eurovision 2015, stating that not taking part in the contest for another year would be as ludicrous as “the Serbian football team not competing at the European Championships because there is no money”.
Dragan Ilić has confirmed to Serbian news website Blic.rs that the broadcaster is also considering a national final if there is enough money raised by sponsors of the contest. RTS has been able to find the necessary 350,000 euros to take part in the contest, with 200,000 of this coming from advertising and sponsorship with the broadcaster covering the rest. This means that a similar situation to those already seen in Greece or Cyprus could arise with an external sponsor helping to pay for an edition of Beosong, Serbia’s national selection event.
However, the broadcaster has yet to confirm exactly how a representative is chosen.
Serbia were last represented in the contest in 2013, where they failed to qualify with Moje 3’s entry “Ljubav je svuda”. Serbia was one of only two countries to win on their debut entry in 2007 when Marija Serifović emerged victorious with “Molitva”, the last winning entry to be sung in a language other than English.
