During a press conference RTVE presented updates for Benidorm Fest 2024, which will take place from January 30th to February 3rd at the Palau L’Illa de Benidorm.
In this edition, the format will remain the same as last year, consisting of two semifinals and one final. The final will be held on February 3rd, while the semifinals will take place on January 30th and February 1st.
During the press conference, several additional details of the upcoming edition were unveiled:
- Benidorm Fest 2024 will feature 16 participants, two fewer than last year.
- Although last year’s voting system has not been confirmed yet, it is likely to remain unchanged, as RTVE’s president, Elena Sánchez, stated about changes in the format, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
- Musical advisors will be enlisted to help select the songs. Among them are musician and producer Pablo Cebrián and Rayden, who participated in the first edition of Benidorm Fest.
- RTVE plans to organize a songwriting camp in September. “While it’s possible none of these songs will be chosen, we aim to experiment by bringing together Spanish and international composers,” mentioned during the press conference.
Furthermore, it was revealed that they have received 100 songs through the online submission form to date. On November 11th, coinciding with the celebration of the Latin Grammys in Seville, the names of the contestants for Benidorm Fest 2024 will be announced.
The Benidorm Fest 2024 will once again try to find the best representative for Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, scheduled to take place in Malmö, Sweden.
Last edition , the Spanish entry “Eaea,” which was chosen to compete in the 2023 contest held in Liverpool, United Kingdom, finished in the 17th position in the Grand Final. Blanca Paloma’s captivating performance earned 95 points from the juries but faced challenges with only 5 points from the public vote, resulting in a total score of 100 points.
