Many Romanian fans were starting to get worried about the approach that the Romanian national broadcaster (TVR) was heading lately, especially with no details being revealed until just recently. Now, TVR has finally revealed that Roxen will represent the Carpathian country in Rotterdam.

Who is Roxen?

Roxen is a young singer originally from the North-western city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, aged 20, who only recently is getting her music career started. First last year in November 2019 she released her debut single “Ce-ți cântă dragostea” after she also featured on Sickotoy’s single “You Don’t Love Me“. She is signed by Global Records which lead to her selection in the first place, after TVR not long ago announced that they would co-operate for the upcoming song contest in Rotterdam.

Below you can watch the presentation video that was made for her announcement. Despite being in Romanian, English subtitles have been added, where she explains more details about herself as well as her vision for the contest.

Selectia Nationala 2020

Romania is among the very few countries in Europe that always stick with a national final every single year, despite it didn’t look like that would happen this year, then the national final will still happen, despite the selection of Roxen.

Selectia Nationala has normally always been an open selection to the Romanians who wish to represent the country at Eurovision Song Contest. However, for the first time ever, TVR went with selecting the artist internally, but instead the national final with now be Roxen performing 5 songs for the public and a jury at the selection show which will take place on the 1st of March 2020.

Where the final will take place, has still not been announced, but rumors started spreading after the Mayor of Buzau announced in his new years speech, that it was 99% likely that the national final would take place in Wallachian city.

If you’re curious about what Roxen has to offer for Eurovision, don’t worry, because the 5 possible songs will be revealed already on the 21st of February.

Televote and Jury will each have a 50% influence on the final outcome of which song Roxen will perform in Rotterdam.

If you wanna know more, TVR has made a web-series about the process of selecting the artist and songs for the upcoming contest. Notice the web-series is in Romanian.

Romania will participate in the second half of the first semi-final, which will take place on the 12th of May.
