Viewers confused as to why they watching ads from Masterchef Georgia sponsors, a brief travelogue on Corsican monasteries, and the 1995 Keanu Reeves movie A Walk in the Clouds instead of the second episode of Georgia’s Junior Eurovision artist selection show Ranina have an answer: the show is being postponed until next week due to technical difficulties.
Per the show’s official Facebook page, “Due to technical issues, the second episode of “Ranina” could not be broadcasted. You will know the second five in exactly one week, on April 15, at 22:00, on Channel 1.”
Additionally, all the social media posts featuring clips of the judges to the five child contestants from tonight’s intended broadcast have had their dates changed from April 8, 2023 to April 15, 2023, suggesting that the schedule has been simply moved up one week in response.
Tonight’s episode would have been the second part of the “first tour” of Ranina, where the second group of five kids would each duet with a past Ranina contestant.
Anastasia Vasadze is the current frontrunner from the first episode, earning the maximum points of 120 in her duet with Oto Bazerashvili across the four judging categories of vocals, performance, artistry and collaboration (a potential maximum of ten in each category from each of the evening’s three judges). Anaroza Gaprindashvili, the youngest contestant at nine years old, and aspiring lawyer and rock fan Demetre Okriashvili, each earned 118 points. Datuna Kereselidze also earned 117 points, with Mariam Gomiashvili bringing in 115 points.
In a brief clip that was shown this evening, though, the second tour of Ranina was previewed showing several adults in traditional brown garments as worn by the traditional Georgian polyphonic choir Shavnabada. Several members of the choir formed Iriao, Georgia’s entry for Eurovision 2018, and were backing singers for Oto Nemsadze’s Eurovision 2019 entry.
This tour, a Ranina regular, is usually one of the more anticipated for foreign viewers as it gives insight into traditional Georgian music and gets the kids to prove their technical prowess and collaboration skills in particular.
However, tune in next week to see the conclusion of the first tour.
And in the meantime, take in an underrated Keanu Reeves melodrama from Mexican director Alfonso Arau.
