The search for the successor of The Black Mamba has started in Portugal! The Portuguese broadcaster RTP has revealed the composers and songwriters that are responsible for the 20 songs competing in Festival da Canção 2022. One of their songs will be representing Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.
The following 16 composers were invited by RTP to participate at Festival da Canção 2022.

As announced earlier, the 16 writers will be joined by 4 composers that submitted their song through a public process
- Pedro Marques
- Pepperoni Passion
- The Mister Driver
- Tiago Nogueira (Os Quatro e Meia)
More than 600 songs were submitted through public submission. It’s possible that the winner of Festival da Canção 2022 will be one of the composers mentioned above, because they can sing their entry themselves or choose another act to perform their song. Most familiar name for Eurovision fans would be Joana Espadinha. She already participated at Festival da Canção in 2018 with her song Zero a Zero and finished ninth in the national final.
The Black Mamba represented Portugal this year with their song “Love is on my side.” The song finished 12th in the grand final with a total of 153 points.
