The Portuguese national broadcaster has confirmed its participation in the 2023 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which will take place in the United Kingdom.
RTP will be bringing back the beloved O Festival da Canção as the selection mechanism for their entry. The 57th edition of O Festival da Canção will once again have 20 songs competing, 16 of which will come from an invitation by RTP to singers and songwriters from various musical genres. The remaining four will be chosen from an open submission window.

Submission open in Portugal
As of 2 September 2022, RTP will begin accepting original songs for O Festival da Canção. The broadcaster will be accepting songs until 21 October 2022.
To qualify for song submission the artist or artists must be of Portuguese nationality or must reside in Portugal. The review and decision process for the four selected songs will be carried out by an internal committee of RTP.

Portugal has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 53 times, winning the competition in 2017.
