Yesterday on their social media channels, North Macedonia’s public broadcaster MRT confirmed their participants for the upcoming 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Lara Trpčeska and Irina Davidovska were selected after an application and audition process at MRT Studios, and now will begin work on finding their song for the contest. The duo only has 30 days to submit their Junior Eurovision entry to MRT, and will be provided with resources by the broadcaster to polish their song.

In their press release MRT stated that the duet of Lara and Irina would be “supported by an author team of renowned artists”, signaling that MRT will continue to take their JESC participation seriously. The delegation has tapped a number of high profile songwriters for the contest in recent years including Lazar Cvetkoski who wrote “Fire” for Mila in 2019 after writing Tamara Todevska’s 2019 Eurovision song “Proud”. He also wrote Arilena Ara’s song “Fall from the Sky/Shaj” which would have gone to Eurovision in 2020, but the contest was cancelled.

For their return in 2021 they tapped local superstar Robert Bilbilov to write “Green Forces” alongside Robin Zimbakov, both of whom would be tapped to write Lara Ivanova’s song “Flower of Sorrow” for Za Evrosong 2022 earlier this year. The two have written most of Lara’s songs to date. In 2016 and 2017, Aleksandar Masevski was selected as the song writer for Martija’s song “Love Will Lead Our Way” and Mina’s song “Dancing Through Life” – he would go on to write Andrea’s song “Circles” for Eurovision 2022 in Turin.

Both singers have previous performance and singing experience, with Lara’s first single “This World” being released right after the audition process began with MRT. Irina was a member of North Macedonia’s group Piccolo which called for a resolution on air quality in Skopje, and also has a long history of stage performance. Her father has posted a number of these performances to his personal YouTube channel, including her piano concerts. Last year she released a cover of “Еве Ме Пак” which was posted to YouTube as well.

The 2022 contest will be held in Yerevan, Armenia on December 11th, 2022. At this time North Macedonia will join eleven other countries in the contest, though a number of countries like Germany, Albania, Kazakhstan, Serbia, and Azerbaijan have not indicated if they will participate as of yet.
