Singers Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper will team up and represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool next May, Duncan Laurence just announced on Dutch Radio 2.
Duncan Laurence had paired the two and submitted them to the selection committee. They previously didn’t know each other until Duncan Laurence and his fiancé Jordan Garfield introduced them to each other.
“Eurovision is the stage to show audiences what you bring to the table. After years of hard work and translating our feelings into music, this is an amazing chance to tell our story to larger audiences. It feel fantastic and a little bit surreal, but we’re ready to bring Europe some positivity,” the duo said
Despite both being relatively new to the Dutch music scene and not having enjoyed much notoriety in their home country, international and Dutch fans will probably rejoice knowing that both artists have already released music before.
Mia Nicolai
Mia Nicolai (26), born into a musical family to a Russian mother and Dutch father, released her first single in 2020 and has since released several songs. At age 3, she already started taking violin and piano lessons and spent her childhood learning about theater, ballet, music and storytelling.
As a child, Mia endured bullying, which, besides leaving scars, also lit a fire within her to always pursue her dreams and to let no one hold her back.
She currently lives in Los Angeles to work on her music and has garnered international attention with her second single Mutual Needs.
Dion Cooper
Dion Cooper (28) was also born into a musical family and has been releasing music since 2020. When he was 15, he started playing the guitar and, in the years after, he experimented with singing and writing his own songs.
His singles Blue Jeans and Know were co-written by Laurence and his fiancé Jordan Garfield. After releasing his EP Too Young Too Dumb, he released his single Fire with Maxine, which has already garnered almost a million streams
His mantra is Bring The Joy and his message is: happiness is in your hands and your hands are meant to share.
As of yet, there’s no information on when Nicolai and Cooper will release their song. They will perform their song in Liverpool, where the contest will be hosted in May. The Netherlands will perform in either of the two semi finals.
