Rotterdam, 9 May 2021

To round off today we finally saw the favourite with the bookies perform for the first time on the Rotterdam stage. Destiny Chukunyere performed her song “Je me casse” for the first time!

Country: Malta (#MLT)
Act: Destiny
Song: “Je me casse”
Semifinal: First (18/05/2021)
Position in Running Order: 16/16

Destiny brought a bright Pink outfit with fringes giving it some dynamic movement to the performance. We saw that the delegation brought their own little podium to have in the center of the big stage with sort of a lighted ballet-pole in the middle of it. Four dancers accompanied her and when the saxophone from the chorus kicks in, the background turns a bright ‘highlighter yellow’ colour in which they perform their signature hand dance that can also be seen in the music video.

The staging for this song is done quite well. The question that everyone has on their mind however, is if it is good enough to be the winner of the entire thing. The colour pallet is very bright and colourful, but perhaps the song could have used something a bit more memorable to pull it over the finishing line. There were a few camera angles to look at and the lighting wasn’t always ideal, but it is a solid performance overall.
