In advance of their participation in Malta’s national final for Eurovision 2018 on February 3rd, we spoke with Avenue Sky, a band competing with their song “We Can Run.” You can listen to it here!

Hello! First of all, thank you for your time talking to us. How are you? Can you introduce yourselves?

Hello. We are Avenue Sky. We are a boy band made up of six members; Kevin, Karl, Clive, Andy, Aidan and Joseph.

What can you tell us about yourself?

Avenue Sky is a 6 member local boy band formed in the beginning of 2016. Members are Kevin (35), Karl (31), Andy (26), Clive (26), Joseph (24) and Aidan (18).

All of us members are professionally trained soloist. The experience that some of us have varies from various festivals and competitions on the island and also hit singles that managed to make it to the top of local radio charts. As a group we have worked on cover versions and also on original material, which material has put us also on the local charts this summer.

This experience contributes well to the main aim of Avenue Sky, that is, to give to our listeners and followers an enjoyable experience through the music that we create together. Our different ages, different opinions and different genres of music is what make our music special to us as we manage to get the best out of each and every member. And through that we want to present to the public the best possible experience.

Avenue Sky is under the mentorship of the talented Glen Vella. His vast experience and technique is what guides us to be who we are today.

Your song that you will be presenting for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is “We Can Run”. What can you tell us about the song?

Our song “We Can Run” is penned by Matthew Ker and Jonas Gladnikoff and composed by Matthew Ker, Jonas Gladnikoff and Glen Vella.

Our aim with this song is to present to the public an uplifting message. Basically the song is saying that whatever situation you might be going through, never lose hope, and do not ever give up because as long as there is blood in our veins and air in our lungs you are surly able to rise again. Through music you can find your inner strength to keep on going strong

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?

The song was not written by us. However it was written for us by the above mentioned talented team with Eurovision in mind of course.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

We are all avid Eurovision followers. We closely follow the contest and we have witnessed how it has evolved into a worldwide event so to speak. Our favorite entry and winner is Heroes by Mans Zelmerlow

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest, where would you dream to do a performance?

It would be a dream come true for us to perform at the yearly Isle of MTV Malta special!

Can you tell us about your first experience with music?

Our first music experience together was when we launched a cover version of Justin Bieber’s song; Love Yourself. We have a very good reponse from the general public as such. And it was because of that first experience that we find ourselves on the MESC 2018 final stage.

How do you describe your music to people?

Since we are a 6 member boyband, we try to present to the local music scene something fresh and fun. Therefore we would say that our music has that young fresh vibe with a touch of feel good factor.

What is a typical day like for you?

Well apart from singing all of us work full time. So basically our typical day starts by going to work, then we meet up for a rehearsal and also for other sessions to come up with new material and new projects that we would have agreed on.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

To always be yourself and to stay true to yourself. We believe that all of us have been given this advice at some point in time in our lives. And in the process of staying true to yourself one should never step on another!

If your life was a song title, what would it be?

Because of our love for music, it would definitely be Andrea Bocelli’s “Vivo Per Lei”

Be sure to catch Avenue Sky at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest this Saturday. We hope you enjoyed this opportunity to get to know them better! What do #YOU think of their song and their chances this weekend?
