Malta PBS announced via Instagram the 40 artists and songs who will compete in the Quarterfinals for MESC 2023. The contest will take place over 6 weeks with four rounds of quarter finals, a semi final, and a final to air on February 11th. Here is the list of the artists and songs selected to compete:
Artists and songs were selected from online submissions by a jury. Each artist will be randomly slotted into each of the four quarterfinals, with 10 artists competing per quarterfinal. A combination of a jury and a public televote will determine the outcome of each show, with 24 artists progressing to the semi finals and the top 16 progressing to the final night. The dates for this year’s MESC contest are:
- Quarterfinal One – January 13
- Quarterfinal Two – January 20
- Quarterfinal Three – January 27
- Quarterfinal Four – February 3
- Semi-Final – February 9
- Grand Final – February 11
MESC 2023 marks the second year of this national final format for Malta after the country opted to select their Eurovision contestant using Malta X-Factor in 2019 and 2020. Last year’s MESC winner, Emma Muscat, competed in Turin with her song “I am What I am”, which placed 16th in her semi-final with 47 points.
